In Chinese watermelon is called 西瓜(west melon) and wintermelon is 冬瓜 (winter melon) but the first word sounds like 東 (east). Pumpkins are called 南瓜 (south melon) and in some places a certain squash is called 北瓜 (north melon)

Stupid English. I read "windmelon" as wind(1), not wind(2). I couldn't figure out how you could wind a melon.

I can see something spicy as firemelon. Like ginger or something something bright like Tiger Melon.. Earthmelon makes me think of squash. Its windmelon that doesn't really conjure anything. I just see apples in my mind cause they falling apples and gravity.
