Can't source it right now, but I believe Sartre commented on how the original quote and his play where he first wrote it was supposed to have that subtext
Reminds me of the time I was at Top Golf with coworkers. For some reason I was making great drive after great drive. Someone noticed and said out loud “hey you’re pretty good at this”. I am not, I don’t play golf at all and was just lucky. So now everyone was watching my next swing. And yeah you guessed it, I completely missed. Spectacularly too, because I swung hard.
When i worked as a web developer, I could bang out HTML/PHP/JavaScript with my eyes closed....
Until, that dreaded moment where quantum uncertainty is destroyed by the simple act of a coworker glancing at my screen.
Suddenly, it's like you gave a typewriter to a coked up parakeet, hunting and pecking with no regards over where the blinky text input thingie is, trying desperately to look like you know what you're doing, but the harder you try, the clearer it becomes that you're just an imposter! Pretending to know what you're doing, but everyone can tell, just look at you!?
So, I have a couple therapy credits left on my health 'benefits' package, I think I'm gonna make an appointment... /rant

Well that's what you get for being made of electrons

That's very negative

This is why I could never be a streamer.

I don't like electron. It makes apps take so much disk space and be so slow.

Measured, not observed. There’s a huge difference.
madmantis24@lemmy.wtf · 3 pts · 126d
Fair, but for the record my behavior definitely changes when I'm being measured!
SorryQuick@lemmy.ca · 2 pts · 125d
Doesn’t observing at the quantum level require measurments? As in you can’t see without interacting with it, thus changing its behavior?
thenextguy@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 125d
Quantum particles don't care if we're looking or not. They only either interact with a detector or they don't.
...is my point.

Same. If I have to screen share in a video call, I suddenly forget how to spell every other word and people get to watch me fix 7 typos per sentence.

So if I'm reading this correctly, only the part of you that is made of electrons does this, and the rest of you doesn't?
Airfried@piefed.social · 5 pts · 126d
That's everyone. That's why we don't want the surveillance state. We all have a natural longing for some privacy.
