Whenever I talk about some show with a coworker and they ask what streaming service its on, but I have no idea because it just shows up on my server

AgaveInMyAss@lemmy.world · 34 pts · 88d (14 replies)

My kids will just say to their friends "oh it's on Plex, do you have Plex?"

curbstickle@anarchist.nexus · 32 pts · 88d (10 replies)

More helpful than my daughter, who I recently overheard say "Its on my dads jelly, you should make your dad ask my dad about his jelly"

derry@midwest.social · 27 pts · 88d (9 replies)

Tell us about your jelly

curbstickle@anarchist.nexus · 18 pts · 88d (7 replies)

I'll be honest here... I didnt correct her. I'm waiting to see if he ends up asking me so I can say something super ridiculous first just to mess with him

Feel free to practice with us

curbstickle@anarchist.nexus · 8 pts · 88d (4 replies)

Also feel free to toss out ideas

So far ive got:

  • Pretend like its super secret and like I'm afraid people will find out
  • Pretend I caught a jellyfish and kept it

Thats about it.

RiceMunk@sopuli.xyz · 10 pts · 88d

Turns out jellyfish regularly have active subscriptions to all the streaming services. If you manage to catch one, you can use its accounts.

It’s time to move to Jellyfin!

AgaveInMyAss@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 88d (1 reply)

I bought the lifetime pass in 2014. Don't have a reason to move just get

W98BSoD@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 1 pts · 87d

Same, and there’s nothing that compare to PlexAmp at this point from any competitor.

If I do switch, it would probably be to Emby.

fitgse@sh.itjust.works · 12 pts · 88d

Who needs to sail the high seas when your local library has a great set of blu-ray and dvd and you can rip it just like you like it! I love having the commentary and extras too.

"Who's Steve the Pirate?"

"The only guy on the team dressed like a pirate?"

"There's a guy dressed like a pirate on the team?!"

Jake_Farm@sopuli.xyz · 17 pts · 88d (9 replies)

Alan Tudyk?

ummthatguy@lemmy.world · 27 pts · 88d (8 replies)

Yup. Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story is now your homework assignment. You'll thank me later.

boonhet@sopuli.xyz · 15 pts · 88d (4 replies)

Ever since I started listening to the spacemen podcast I keep noticing Alan in so many movies I've seen ages ago.

Also if any kids ask him "have you been in anything I've seen?" he can literally reply "have you heard of Disney?"

The man is an absolute beast of an actor

My favorite behind the scenes moment:

dethedrus@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 10 pts · 88d (2 replies)

Just a fun romp of a podcast.

Convinced me that it's been far too long since I rewatched Resident Alien.

jubilationtcornpone@sh.itjust.works · 6 pts · 87d (1 reply)

I was really disappointed when Resident Alien was cancelled. It's a good show.

dethedrus@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 5 pts · 87d

Same. But at least it had a good run.

Jake_Farm@sopuli.xyz · 5 pts · 88d

Oh I remember now, If you dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball. I haven't seen it since I was a kid.

I think people here drastically overestimate the percentage of the population who has a desktop computer.

ummthatguy@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 88d

Gotta pump up those numbers.

boonhet@sopuli.xyz · 6 pts · 88d (2 replies)

iOS folks sre shit out of luck here, Android can torrent. Actually I think with debrid you could also use stremio on iOS, but I'm not too sure. Lastly, you could run a seedbox.

Oh and circling back to stremio, you can run that on android tv. Have an old TV? Even better, get an android stick.

Damage@feddit.it · 1 pts · 87d (1 reply)

Good luck torrenting with a cellular connection tho

boonhet@sopuli.xyz · 2 pts · 87d

You can still have Wi-Fi at home even if you don't own a computer with a desktop OS on it. Additionally, if you have an unlimited plan or just a very high data cap, it's not a huge issue to torrent. May need a VPN though so you wouldn't have a hundred connections, but just one.

Before they finally dragged fiber to my ass, but after I'd got tired of 10 mbps copper, I had an outdoor LTE antenna with an unlimited data plan for my sole internet connection at home. It was a bit unstable and speed varied from 10 mbps to 150 or 200 mbps (I think. it's been a while), but at least it worked. Plus I'd do most of my torrenting overnight so it wouldn't affect other people on the same network cell as much.

parzival@lemmy.hkserv.space · 2 pts · 87d

You can still use streaming sites and DDL with vlc

Valmond@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 87d

Yeah would love to know how that's going actually.

I asked my kid if he'd not be better off with a console, as he plays those games, but he was like you'd have to pry my PC from my dead fingers! So there's one or two at least, but I guess it's a dwindling number.
