Another Trump achievement

Man to bad we don't have a solution to this problem that we already know works.
That would be so awesome to have right now

Aren't Orange's borders impenetrable? Where is ICE? 🙃

With the absolute decimation of our scientific divisions in our government don't expect any help with this.
Folstar@lemmus.org · 35 pts · 61d
How neat is it that the screwworm, which was a plague in the 1930s, is back just in time (well, a little early but when the history books are written they'll zoom out the timeline) for our reenactment of the Great Depression? A little on the nose with history repeating itself, but still interesting. I guess we should be on the lookout for another Dust Bowl too.

TLDR USAID protection program didn't get canceled but the zone moved to Mexico border (unclear to me why). Relationship with Mexico was strained and Mexico allowed less flights to disperse sterile flies.

Thanks DOGE!!!!
sportsjorts@lemmy.zip · 9 pts · 61d
This is the answer. May screwworms burrow into Elon’s testicles.
GirthBrooksPLO@lemmy.world · 28 pts · 61d
We can all thank the Sig Heiling feckless loser Elon Musk and his illegal DOGE for this. His ego was so massive that he didn't realize why the government was breeding flies to contain this absolute horror of a parasite.
This will continue to spread, and I hope that Cybertruck shaped moron is personally infected so he can suffer the actual consequences of his bottomless hubris for once in his unfortunately persistent life.

I'm so tired of this shit. People need to hang for these decisions
CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 59d
ICE should be sent to get Elon. Let him get disappeared into the system for a long while here, then send him off to some hellhole country we've bargained with to send "illegals" to.
Haha, who am I kidding? That would never ever happen. Elon is too white, wayyyy too over-moneyed and in bed with the Nazis to ever have that happen.
Jarix@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 59d
You sound vengeful. I just want it to stop. We are not the same
CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 58d
In all seriousness, I wish there were a way to properly put someone like Elon through rehabilitation into mainstream society as a well-adjusted adult able to contribute meaningfully to society.
As things are, I doubt he'll even learn some mild lesson that most kids internalized by the time they were out of kindergarten.
I realize that he was beaten within an inch of his life in his youth. He should not take that out on the world.
Jarix@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 58d
I think an example beds to be made. Ideally that's a great result. These are not reaaonal or rational people that sought out Epstein's service to be able to fuck kids and whatever else they got up to. They have caused unfathomable harm in the last few years alone. It's too late.
It's time for something akin to the Nuremberg trials, only without rampant face saving and blatant opportunism of offering a place for the "useful" monsters that took part in this. There is nothing they can learn if they don't understand by this point. What is there to save? They fucked up waaaay beyond forgiveness and don't deserve any further empathy. It's a weakness to many of them anyway by their own admission if not actions. The weekend will be better off without them and that is justice for those they have killed abused assaulted tortured.
These are the worst of us. A cancer that should be removed. But we need honest justice and not mob justice. I don't know who that is. The world is cooked
CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 58d
Yeah, what I really wish for is probably way off, if indeed even possible. I think I was quite intrigued by the ideas in the book Queen of Angels, most especially the idea of The Country of the Mind, in which they use tech to conduct therapy on people.
We could use a whole lot of that right now. However, I think even if that tech were to come online, right now it would be in the hands of those that would most need to be therapied...irony of ironies.
Jarix@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 58d
Tech is NOT a salvation. We need people who think. Aren't afraid to be challenged. Anf challenge others in turn. Unfortunately we have never figured these things out at scale. It only takes a small group to corrupt anything too large

Humans will be fine beef prices not so much.
AlecSadler@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 4 pts · 61d
I wouldn't doubt that this is going to be blown up by the media so that beef prices can skyrocket and never come back down and that beef companies will suddenly post record breaking profits.
Nora@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 1 pts · 61d
Probably, I'm gonna have to figure out how to replace some of my recipies with impossible/beyond meat since its about the same damn price these days, and this thing is only gonna make beef more expensive.
I'm so tired of "winning"
FrChazzz@lemmus.org · 4 pts · 61d
I swap Impossible and Beyond meat in recipes somewhat regularly. Basically, you just cook it the same. It's easiest in a spaghetti sauce, but I did make a recipe that called for tofu and ground turkey with miso and swapped out the turkey with a couple frozen Beyond patties and it was really good (even better as leftovers when the tofu had a bit more time to absorb the miso flavors). Beyond takes to sauces really well.
Nora@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 3 pts · 61d
I've had them both in burgers a few times and they've always been pretty good so this is exciting to hear it works well especially in sauce.
CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 59d
Honestly, as a vegetarian I've always been completely baffled by vegetarian options on menus where there is basically something subbed in that should cost substantially less costing me the same amount or, more insultingly, more than the omnivore edition.
That goes for things like impossible burgers, etc. I realize these two vendors can maybe set prices, but....sheesh. They should be way cheaper, all things being equal, but I think our food supply is all warped by a lot of subsidies.

Maybe they will take it seriously since it will affect cattle.

The USDA is actually because this shill fuck the bottom line out of the whole meat industry.
BeMoreCareful@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 60d
People don't have any idea how true this is. The USDA suffered from corruption before. It is honestly time for a lot of people to start evaluating their diets with regulatory reality.

/s because this is probably what MAGA believes.

I usually rather like Ars, but there's something very weird and silly about applying the idea of borders, especially non natural ones, to flies.

CultLeader4Hire@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 61d
It infects humans too 🙃
RaphaelSchmitz@feddit.org · 3 pts · 61d
Yeah but humans can and would do something about it.
A cow gets a wound, the wound gets infected, and the larva make the wound bigger, probably leading to more even infection - while the cow has no way to deal with that.
Raiderkev@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 61d
Man... Sure sucks. Certainly there was some waste, fraud and abuse going on in the gubermint screwworm division, and those people obviously should have been fired because they were doing nothing, and now, completely unrelated, this happens.
CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 59d
They probably had some DEIWokeCRT in there, and Elon's Doge-boys like BIG BALLS had to get in there and rectify things.
Surely some dumbass kids that are barely past high school age know just what the fuck they are doing?! And they weren't going to let any smartypants people that were qualified tell them otherwise, hell, those people even might be liberal, and {clutches pearls} maybe didn't even vote for maga.
