which mostly last for like 1-2 months before I lost all interest and move on to another fixation... or being in slump with no interest for months

Yeah... this is the way. I really wish I had just one fixation that stuck with me my whole life. I think I would have been a lot happier. And also would have wasted less money on temporary interests.

Weird I managed to keep a few over the span of years. But it's also hyper specific knowledge domains, so I don't think it qualifies as a hobby.

It might also be forever, like the cliche Dinos or trains, but I just always hope the next fixation is something good/worthwhile...

If it feels right, it's always worthwhile:)

Or...the decision paralysis after amassing resources for dozens of hyperfixation and being met with a crippling inability to settle on a single thing.

So this one time I really wanted to build a guitar. Now I have 10. I don’t really play the guitar.

10 FINISHED guitar?!?!

what's your secret, how do you finish a project?!

kibblebits@quokk.au · 6 pts · 72d

Do things just bad enough that you’re never satisfied and you keep punishing yourself until you get it perfect.

So I have 9 guitars and one I like 🤣

Spendius@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 72d (1 reply)

Wow, nice!

I managed to build just 1 and realized having to wait for the paint to dry and the varnish to cure was just too much torture for me to endure.

kibblebits@quokk.au · 3 pts · 72d

That’s why you do 3 at a time. You can have them spread all over the house so you’re constantly working and reminded of how you’re probably in over your head but if you don’t get a perfect guitar you’ve wasted all your time and money!!!!

PM_ME_VINTAGE_30S@anarchist.nexus · 1 pts · 72d (1 reply)

How did you learn to build your first? I do play some guitar, but I've always put off actually learning to build the first, because I just wanna go straight to building 8 string baritone monsters.

kibblebits@quokk.au · 3 pts · 72d

I bought a kit for the first one. So easy. Very satisfying. Just do it. Amazon has a bunch. eBay too. It’s about $150.

The hard part began when I said “shit, I can build this myself” and then started cutting wood. Not so easy it turns out.

Well yeah, but I'm enjoying those. That's all that matters.

Fuck that duck is me right now, and probably for the whole of 2 more days.
