Because the average Skippy is still a racist, unintelligent simpleton

There are progressive pockets of the population, but even in the heralded cities, as soon as you get away from the inner suburbs, you're deep in the territory of the halfwits

I made a move to somewhere considered regional Australia, and the majority of the people around me are simple hicks who constantly reinforce the stereotypes they get upset by

But it's quiet and peaceful

This sort of holier than thou attitude is definitely one reason why people aren't flocking to the Greens...

justincider@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 64d

Agreed. Calling people idiots if they vote differently to you is not a way to swing them around to your side of the political spectrum.

Most people aren’t idiots. If someone is opposed to your views, find out why and try to understand how they came to their conclusion.

Same reason the proletariat want to watch sports matches, drink, gamble and whore rather than spend their time in theory study groups and people’s committees: what Marx called false consciousness.

What's the point? They have the sorts of policies that wouldn't actually work if they had any power, thankfully they don't usually get anywhere near having any. Hyphenated surnames are over-represented in their ranks. They are elitist, latte-sipping city dwellers who wouldn't know a hard day's work if it punched them in the face.

Other than that, they're not bad.

Because A) left wing progressives are massive puritans who look down on everyone who isn't as puritan as them B) The Greens played their cards a little too hard the last time they got into power (and in 2010)

You can't play kingmaker, somehow end up looking like the left wing version of the coalition, blocking labor from getting actual work done and then expect to be handed a gold medal for your performance

Bonus rounds: C) people will put up with transgenders but they certainly don't feel as good as they did about supporting gays and lesbians which was quite frankly straight forward in comparison

Most Australians also absolutely detest Islam because it is an extremist backwards ideology

Funnily enough this has resulted in the greens trying to juggle 2 competing extremist ideologies at the same time ultimately appealing to few outside of those camps who can somehow do the mental gymnastics to make it work

There's loads more reasons but tbh if I was looking to vote for someone just as dysfunctional as one nation I'd still rather vote for the greens, at least the economy will die while we get some public housing to live in

Analysts say the Greens have failed to make inroads with disaffected working-class voters.

Polanski has managed to resonate with working-class voters in the UK, picking up the traditional Labour seat of Gorton and Denton in a by-election with a former plumber candidate but in Australia, the Greens are still mainly seen as a party of inner-city elites, Samaras says.

actually it's because the area is full of muslims and the greens ran a campaign appealing to muslims

The UK's Green Party has won the Gorton and Denton by-election, a contest that descended into accusations of sectarianism. The Gaza war was a hotbed issue.

https://www.thenationalnews.com/news/uk/2026/02/27/green-party-gorton-denton-by-election/

Which only works in areas with lots of muslims, which we can see here in the England Local election results 2026 a short time later coming 5th out of 6 groups and 5th out of 5 major parties

https://www.bbc.com/news/election/2026/england/results

anyway good times, it's not really politics unless there's some catastrophe of a party threatening to ruin everything

You gotta stop calling the religion of a quarter of this world an extremist backwards ideology. You're not correct in your statement. If Australians detest anything its not having access to toilet paper.

Flattening the wide differences between 2 billion people is farcical. Not to mention you're insulting hundreds of thousands of your own countrymen, 👏 well done you, who share your Australian values and have Islamic faith.

Try targetting degenerate extremists of any stripe and credence. That would be far more reflective of reality than targetting all and sundry hanging out in a mosque .

You’re not correct in your statement

Feel free to talk to them as I have, you have to go deeper than surface level discussions of course, really get in deep, you'll find they are much closer in beliefs to a muslim family first than the greens but they will vote for the greens if it means getting a muslim member into parliament

Now where did you put family first on your list of votes last time 🤔

Undercover report: Muslim leaders urges women to total submission

Six of the representatives were taped as they explained how according to the Koran, a Muslim woman is not allowed to deny her husband sex – it is his right, even against her will.

https://www.svt.se/nyheter/granskning/ug/undercover-report-muslim-leaders-urges-women-to-total-submission

I mean, encouraging rape sounds a bit extremist to me? But hey it's only "one of Sweden’s most respected, and well-frequented, mosques is located at the heart of Stockholm, at Medborgarplatsen"

Radio Sweden coverage of the same investigation notes that 6 out of 10 mosques gave advice to women seeking help that didn’t align with Swedish law, including advising against filing a police report.

More than 40 people have been arrested after violent clashes in Sweden between police and people angry at plans by a far-right group to burn copies of the Quran.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-61134734

Jeez they REALLY don't like Islam 😅 I don't think I've seen even 1 koran burned here

If Australians detest anything its not having access to toilet paper.

When people were asked about negative attitudes towards different faith groups, 21 to 25 per cent of those interviewed said they held negative views about Muslims, but the rate in the self-completion survey was almost double at 40 per cent.

In 2018, asked whether they felt positive, negative or neutral towards Muslims, 23 per cent of those polled said they felt ‘very negative’ or ‘somewhat negative’, increasing to 39 per cent when answering anonymously. Results were similar in 2017.

https://www.sbs.com.au/news/article/negative-attitudes-about-muslims-in-australia-remain-high-survey-finds/3gp53uzkb

'Only half the population' detests Islam is enough for me

Not to mention you’re insulting hundreds of thousands of your own countrymen, 👏 well done you, who share your Australian values and have Islamic faith

This is what you sound like to me:

Jeez you really think all these people are extremist? You're crazy man, not every nazi is extremist, only some of them, try connecting with your local nazi, you'll find you both have a lot in common :)

And tbh, if you ignore politics and religion, I'm sure they're all lovely people, but unfortunately debating politics and hating on religion (of all kinds btw) is kinda my thing

last post on this, i don't care to debate any further

Gorgritch_umie_killa@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 64d

Lol, 😂 had to go all the way to the otherside of the world in Sweden in a vain attempt to prove the 'Islam bad mm'kay' isn't a farcical position. How many billions of Muslims are between here and there?

You speed-ran to the Nazis, its the acceptance that whole groups of people in a society are degenerate that creates the conditions for genocide.... a pretty immoral act the Nazis, among others, are infamous for.

Mate, have you heard some of the shit conservative Christians say? And half our pollies are some sort of Christian, both left and right wing.

Just because you're a Catholic does not mean you're a child rapist like Cardinal Pell. And just because you're a Muslim doesn't mean you hate all the infidels like the Ayatollah.

Have some perspective. There's plenty of Muslim lefties out there, and centrists, and corporate ghouls, and bigots. Just like anyone.

Eyekaytee@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 63d

Mate, have you heard some of the shit conservative Christians say?

Yes, I have been debating religious people since roughly 2003, hence why I’m quick to leave these “debates”, im simply repeating myself for the 1000th time

And half our pollies are some sort of Christian, both left and right wing.

You’re not wrong ?

I detest them too? Nice own goal there? But your support is appreciated

Just because you’re a Catholic does not mean you’re a child rapist like Cardinal Pell. And just because you’re a Muslim doesn’t mean you hate all the infidels like the Ayatollah.

Correct however go lookup some statistics on what Muslims believe

There’s plenty of Muslim lefties out there, and centrists, and corporate ghouls, and bigots.

Yes I call them slippery fish, every religious person has their own version of religion, plenty of “muslims” who drink beer, smoke and don’t lower their gazes before the women

This does not change the fundamental beliefs of Islam are not something I wish to entertain and my support for a total ban of restrictive Islamic clothing for women

last response btw ;)

I feel like we've had this discussion before. But to me all religions are nonsense, and singling out Islam seems odd to me.

The Greens aren't a "pro-islam" party, they're anti-discrimination, and pro-palestine. Which any person who's anti-genocide is at least not pro-israel (disclaimer, I don't like the Greens, but for other reasons).

The greens are a party that believes you can manage, reform and tax capitalism into something acceptable, and believe parliament is where power is and should be. They, like all the bigger parties, elect leaders from within the parliamentary party, and don't really let regular members vote on policy (something I believe Labor does, but just ignores? I'm not as familiar with their internal party politics).

I'd argue why they're unappealing, is that they don't focus enough on the core issue: class struggle. Too many tree Tories in the party. Too many people who think if only we could get enough "good people" into parliament everything will be fixed.

The last election their headline policy was dental into Medicare. Good, sure, but they don't talk about ablishing Medicare and replacing it with a truly public system, one where out of pocket costs can't just come back every couple of years. They don't talk about scrapping the stupid Union Accords Labor brought in decades ago which absolutely knee-capped union power by severely restricting the right to strike.

I just think your fixation on Islam is troubling.

All religions are dumb, in my opinion, but I'll speak up against discrimination of all kinds.
