Not sure if this is the right place, but I've seen this for the 3rd removed now.
Literally couldn't use the word in the title ... got a red pop-up that said "slur".
It's the 3rd word (singular) in the famous newspaper from New York ....
UPDATE: seems to be an issue with ani.social, thanks for all the feedback!

Some of us dont want slop, censoring slop is good actually, if you want slop there are plenty of other instances.
cyberpunk007@lemmy.ca · 0 pts · 36d
H*ly fk, does this sht really do something positive for you?
I guess you must have no idea what I said cause I censored it though. Ah well, too bad!
LovableSidekick@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 37d
Is there a publicly available list of domains lemmy instances filter out? For transparency.
leraje@piefed.blahaj.zone · 8 pts · 37d
Here's the list that your instance (lemmy.world) blocks.
Quokka@quokk.au · 3 pts · 37d
Those are only blocked instances not any domains blocked.
leraje@piefed.blahaj.zone · 1 pts · 37d
I don't know enough about how lemmy (or any fedi software come to that) differentiates between the two or even that it did to be honest - isn't an instance tied to a domain?
Quokka@quokk.au · 3 pts · 37d
Instances are other Fediverse software sites like Lemmy, PieFed, Mastodon, etc. The block list stops their content from appearing in your instances feed.
There are a separate list of blocks for any URL, so for example an instance could block anyone posting links to BBC.com.

First paragraph I knew :)
Second paragraph was news to me - thank you!

Oh, yeah if "t.me" was interpreted as a regex it would match "time".

I wonder if someone is learning a lesson about regexes on that instance. It would be very weird to replace the string 'time' on its own.

I remember back in the early web days I was trying to make a post on a forum with something about Dick Van Dyke, getting a double-whammy name block. He already unfamiliar to the younger people even back then, so none of my attempts to explain who I was talking about worked. I couldn't even say what show he starred in for them to look up, since it was also called The Dick van Dyke Show.
dickalan@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 37d
you could try to say they were the poorly cocksney bastard in Mary Poppins
Hamartiogonic@sopuli.xyz · 2 pts · 37d
But what’s the slur they’re hunting if they catch “time”? Is it tim, ime, ti, me or something else?
cecilkorik@lemmy.ca · 2 pts · 37d
farmgineer@nord.pub · 2 pts · 37d
No idea and not sure if it's right. They could be attempting to match something across whitespace or line breaks and gotten greedy. Or maybe it is just a string match and not regex and they pasted the wrong string, but that still feels weird.
Hamartiogonic@sopuli.xyz · 0 pts · 37d
Actually already found out a reasonable candidate. Someone else pointed out that ti-me in Japanese is a slur.

That's crazy, i can't think of a reason why thyme are banned or is a slur. Maybe the admin made a mistake?

elder scroll online censored the word sperm, but "whisper" was how they called the private chat, so you'd see lot of people on the global chat writing "whisper me" which was shown as "whi*** *e"

Certain Pokémon games have filters preventing you from online trading Pokémon which have nicknames that include bad words. However, some Pokémon such as Cofagrigus have bad words in their names by default so you have to nickname those in order to trade them.

Time, Dr. Freeman?
aeronmelon@lemmy.world · 13 pts · 37d
Your instance is ani.social and “ti-me” (ちめ) can mean bloodshot eyes or fatal error, and might be slang for a pejorative in Japanese or something that sounds close to an actual slur.
Still a stupid reason to censor the English word time on an English community, but that’s the best reason I can think for why it got zapped by a censor bot.
ramble81@lemmy.zip · 8 pts · 37d
Which is funny because there are multiple anime with “time” in their title. So I wonder how that’s going to look.

I see the word time a lot of times here too.
remon@ani.social · 6 pts · 37d
The funniest thing is, even with "view source" it shows up the same for me. So I can't even tell if you're mocking me!
