The font was named after the country. It was designed in 1957 in Münchenstein near Basel, Switzerland.

The reason is to avoid favoring any one of the four official languages by deriving the code from a neutral, fifth language.

That’s also how you avoid circular dependencies.

No, we spell it "Schweiz"

This is also why their currency is abbreviated CHF.

I get it. They squatted .ch so China had to go with .cn
