The left looks fine on the surface but is actually ineffective, the right is a huge mess of grifting and the center is much more fascist than they will admit?
So less than a month ago Trump held a UFC fight on this very lawn.
ScottsMiracle-Gro said it will donate “a combination of monetary and product support” to the National Park Service, including plans to re-sod the lawn and use a special blend of turfgrass chosen by Trump to reseed it. The company expects the lawn to be fully restored by spring of next year.
A helipad is far from the worst thing he's done. I'm sure it'll come with the usual Trump flair of fraud and circumventing process, but I can absolutely buy the argument that Marine 1 should have somewhere consistent to land that isn't just grass--not that it can't land in grass, but that it'll fuck up the grass.
I hope they finish that granite so that it's really slippery when it rains. I want to see Pig Man faceplant and knock out a few front teeth, ideally with a soundtrack of Yakity Sax.
While that may be traditional there's also a solid chance Trumps presidency gets more or less scrubbed by successors be it following presidents or US successor states. Assuming the site isn't just abandoned out of spite and left to rot.
They would put out three big metal plates for the thing to land on; so not only aiming for the right section of lawn, but getting the wheels exactly on the plates. And the new helicopters vented their exhaust downward, so burning the grass became a thing.
Ya, this seems like a case of folks going nuts over anything done by the Trump Administration. The fact is that US Presidents have been using helicopter travel from the White House for a long time and will continue with that going forward. Having a dedicated landing pad is likely better and safer. Sure, it'll be bit of an eyesore, but the White House is supposed to be a functional home for the head of state, it's going to have a few nods to functionality.
Follow up question tho: why has this never been an issue until now, I haven't heard a single WH staffer or president bemoan the lack of a helipad. So it seems like he's just rearranging things to suit his style as usual, treating the People's House like it's his fourth vacation property.
Honestly it may very well be that they need a helipad cause Trump can't walk on uneven terrain anymore. Either that or they need a stable flat surface in case they need to wheel him about. Remember that last physically disabled president comparable to Trump's disability was FDR and he was president before helicopters were particularly reliable. Mind you I still think it's stupid for eat shit and die reasons but it is a potentially valid point if it was anyone other than Trump.
From what I understand, it didn’t actually use to be a problem; the older helicopters vented their exhaust upwards. The newer ones vent downward, and burn the grass.
I haven’t heard a single WH staffer or president bemoan the lack of a helipad.
You spend a lot of time hanging about with WH staffers and Presidents?
he’s just rearranging things to suit his style as usual,
Honestly, it's probably not necessary. But, Presidents do regularly make changes to the White House and its grounds. Whether we like it or not, he is the President and the current resident of the White House. Historically, that means he has some latitude in making the place his own for his stay. Remember that even fixtures like the Rose Garden were added and modified by previous residents. This is just the most recent one putting his touches on the place. And those touches can and likely will be updated by future Presidents. Let's save the outrage for stuff that actually matters.

You know... The older I get, the more I find myself rooting for the aliens in that movie.

The aliens did a lot less damage than the current administration
Doomsider@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 52d
The aliens were just an allegory for imperialism. Basically what we did to the natives and what the wealthy now do to us.

Per TheHill.
Now that lawn is turning into a helipad? What happened to the company that said they're going to fix it? What happened to that money?
I know the obvious answer is someone just pocketed $1 million dollars, but who?

Trump Ballroom is obviously an occasional use facility, but "Trump heliport" is something they'll say on the news every day for a thousand years.
