French toast should have a decent dose of eggs and milk to to along with the sugar, so it comes with protein. Granted, I know that French toast is often not well made :(
Just noticed in the 1917 ad, the Karo Lady is literally an anthropomorphized ear of corn. And not shy about showing off her rows of shapely kernels, haha!
Frankly I don't want anthropomorphized food. Feels too close to cannibalism!
Ok im going to talk about its nutrition aspects. Its by no means healthy but I think many people don't realize the difference between glucose which this is and fructose which is the high fructose corn syrup which is basically processed to make half the glucose in fructose. Latly sucrose which is sugar as most people know is a molecule made up of 1 fructose and one glucose. So high fructose corn syrup mimics sugar. Fructose is sweeter but its processed by the liver and like all things processed by the liver is hard on it if ingested in excess. Glucose definately causes insulin spiking as its the sugare you cells directly metabolize. In the hospital when they need to give you calories they give you a glucose drip. So fructose does not spike insulin but thats kinda worse because insulin is part of a system to regulate you energy levels. Fructose is kinda outside of it so will pump into your systems regardless of how well your doing. So overall, to me, fructose is worse. Glucose is not necessarily bad of itself but is not meant to be in the exessive quantities that you can only get when you have a syrup like this.

"nutritious"
at least mountain dew contains (a tiny amount of) orange juice.

Well they’re not lying: both light and dark are equally nutritious!

As a kid growing up in the south, this was literally my pancake syrup.

My dad still uses it. My brother is 50/50 between that and imitation maple syrup

Is honey a syrup? Because honey on bread rocks. The thought of corn syrup on bread makes me gag, though

I love how one of the recommended uses is just a slice of bread with corn syrup on it.

It’s both history and, probably, future!
