Yeah, and the clear implication that they would have to have is that they were killed because they were cyclists?? Otherwise, I'm positive hundreds if not thousands (idk the demographics) of Jews were killed by accident, killed in hospitals, killed for other identities, over gambling debts etc.
There's a super old joke (I first read it in a Leo Rosten book), that an antisemite claimed that the Jews had caused the war; the reply was: Yes, the Jews and the bicyclists. Why the bicyclists? Asks the antisemite. Why the Jews? asks the other.
Cyclists are not well known for their capacity for long-distance travel, really they are better suited for commutes and the like (not that it can’t be done)
Edit: people it’s not that deep I was just poking fun at bikes not being great for ‘just leave’-ing (I assume OP did not intend for them to be returning)
No, it isn't. A significant number of people could never move that conventionally, or possibly in any other form.
Even among competing strongment and powerlifters you have to have a certain luck with your baseline genetics--and even lucky smaller lifters may have problems.
Some of my biggest movements are over a thousand pounds. Many competing strong men will never reach that number on any particular lift. And you know what? I bike for shit and do cardio for shit.
It's irresponsible to pretend that anyone who cannot commit themselves to impressive feats of physical activity is just fat and lazy.
Delusional is talking about something that's manufactured propaganda in order to get you on board with Israel, despite it doing genocide in the middle east.
Better to pay attention to a real issue, cyclists dying in our streets.
Lemmy is such a shitty place sometimes. Being against antisemitism and being against Israels crimes are not mutually exclusive. They have, in fact, nothing to do with one another.
Sure. But if you read the original post, it's about someone saying that jews are not safe in Canada. And this is then contrasted with how bicyclists are being killed in Canada but jews are not being killed. Directly contradicting the presented narrative.
So then you might wonder: why did someone feel that Canada was unsafe? And you'll find that the answer was "because they heard a few people criticize Israel."
In my own experience, the people saying "jews aren't safe" or "this is antisemitism" often aren't jewish or representing any jewish people; they're just pro-evil.

None of the killed cyclists were Jews? Is this some twisted antisemitism?
Soapbox@lemmy.zip · 25 pts · 22d
The motorists killing cyclists are so antisemitic they don't want Jews touching their cars.

Sure, more cyclists were killed, but the real question is who is more smug? /s

Transportation is rarely a choice. At least, not one made by the user. Being a cyclist is more political than being jewish.
