I'm just a simple Fartographer; you're the one with all the pizzazz. If anything, I'd be the Peter Parker to your Spider-Man: two distinct individuals.
You'd assume if it was someone you didn't know and someone else did, that they'd spell it right. So yeah, them correcting it means they looked it up or they're lying. Autocorrect isn't fixing that shit.
I just posted somewhere else, if I try to write kalifa (like I just did, I had to force the incorrect spelling) my phone automatically autocorrects to Khalifa.
To be fair, if I swipe kalifa on my keyboard it autocorrects to Khalifa every time. There is no kalifa option other than the one I've just forced. If this person wasn't paying attention to the "h" it could've been accidental.
Or the rapper Wiz Khalifa for that matter. The song played at the end of fast 7 when they sent Paul Walker away (See you again) has billions of views on YouTube. In fact it's up to 7 billion now.
Incidentally that was the movie in which they jumped out of Burj Khalifa in cars lol
I had read previously (and just confirmed on Wikipedia) that Mia Khalifa (real name Sarah Joe Chamoun) got her stage name from her dog, Mia, and Wiz Khalifa.
So, familiarity with Wiz Khalifa is directly relevant to knowing how Mia Khalifa's name is spelled.
I'm a smug dickhead, but usually when I make that mistake, it's because swype doesn't know which "your" I meant, and I fail to catch the mis-swype. Same with "too/to". And, weirdly, "me/Mr". It's actually a pretty common occurrence, and it's a huge pain point.
Idk I just typed "kalifa" and had to fix autocorrect changing it to Khalifa. Or dude could be familiar with Arabic transliteration and the name but not the person.
Doesn't matter to me though. I'm distracted now that I'm thinking about Mia Khalifa.

Or their phone keyboard offered an autocorrection… Google have been doing that for years now.
FinjaminPoach@lemmy.world · 33 pts · 16d
So what you're saying is google knows how to spell Mia Khalifa's name. Does this mean they want my attention?

autocorrect capitalizes names, the name in the post isn't capitalized
fartsparkles@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 16d
The could have auto capitalization turned off
Paddzr@lemmy.world · -1 pts · 16d
So then it wasn't auto corrected...
fartsparkles@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 16d
Auto correct with autocapitalization turned off is a thing… I just tried it with my phone.

Lemme try. Miss Khalid
Nope, but that's 100% on me for swiping and sucking at it.

Or they could just know the correct spelling of a common Arabic name.

Mine corrects it to Khalifa. What part of it being a common name is so difficult to understand?

Tbf, you don't have to be a rainman of early 2010s porn to recognise poor transliteration arabic to english, but i'm sure it helps.

Or autocorrect or they read it and wrote it how it sounded to them without looking closely at spelling or many other possible reasons.
craftrabbit@lemmy.zip · 9 pts · 16d
Ok but... who is Mia khalifa?
(I looked it up, I think it's former controversial porn actress, current internet personality)
gilgameth@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 16d
They could've searched "Mia Kalifa" and found out the correct spelling. So it's not necessarily begging for attention.
kbobabob@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 42 pts · 16d
Then why would they ask who it is?
Carnelian@lemmy.world · 21 pts · 16d
Gil already thought about this is and is just commenting for attention

Who's Gilgamesh bro💔?
FinjaminPoach@lemmy.world · 16 pts · 16d
Notice how his name is spelled gilgame-t-h here, and you spelled it right; shows that you know of him and you are simply begging for attention.
