This is one reason why emulators are absolutely essential to keeping older games alive.

It is, with a hacked 3DS.

No problem. Also every device is hackable but I didn't want to go overboard and it takes some expertise but there are also guides.

Not from a Jedi.

Yes, but scanners can be annoying to use.

MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip · 3 pts · 34d (1 reply)

Scanners? Just create a memory dump.

In the past, I’ve had issues with bandwidth and keeping files uncorrupted. I don’t know whether I was doing anything wrong, but two separate cables gave me corrupted files as often as not

Maybe something's wrong if it is modded? Or maybe try cleaning the pins on the cartridge with isopropyl alcohol

rounding_error@lemmy.today · 14 pts · 34d (2 replies)

The issue isn’t due to moisture or corrosion. I had to insert it a few times to get the 3D icon to show up, but after it did, the game hit an unknown instruction due to corruption inside the cartridge memory.

DacoTaco@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 32d (1 reply)

Id would rather go with save game corruption than the rom being fucked tbh..
This is also, afaik, not the official sdk crash screen but dont quote me on that one

rounding_error@lemmy.today · 1 pts · 32d

I don’t think I have any saves 🙂

The issue was with the .3ds file that resides inside the cartridge. It failed the verification check unfortunately.

Allllright. Time to use Godmode9 to backup literally every single DS cart I have from my childhood.

wizardbeard@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 4 pts · 33d

Can't recommend it enough. Nothing beats having your own "real" saves from childhood in the convenience factor of modern emulation.

Strider@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 34d (4 replies)

Since this is a crash of a hacked 3DS I'd love to see how it behaves on one that isn't (not saying the cartridge isnt borked but I haven't seen that on 3DS so far).

There def seems to be an issue with Luma. I put my system to suspend with a physical game inside and it ran into some error I couldn't read fast enough

No idea what is up with it. Hope it's not the internal eMMC that's a problem.

DacoTaco@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 32d (2 replies)

Do you want me to pass this on to one of the luma devs?

rounding_error@lemmy.today · 1 pts · 32d (1 reply)

No that’s ok. Not sure what kind of bug report it’d be. Anyways, the issue is 100% with the cartridge. The GodMode9 fork says this game has a high failure rate.

DacoTaco@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 32d

That sucks. First time i hear of game carts failing :(

AI_toothbrush@lemmy.zip · 5 pts · 34d (2 replies)

Shit. I have my games backed up to an sd cause mines also modded but i still use the cartridges cause its just so fun.

MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip · 5 pts · 34d (1 reply)

SD-cards have lower quality flash and no error correction. Better create a backup or at least plug it on all few months.

AI_toothbrush@lemmy.zip · 3 pts · 34d

Yeah i keepcother backuos as well its just where i usually have the newest saves. Im alsocparanoid about it so i swtich sd cards often.

Anivia@feddit.org · 2 pts · 34d

Yeah, my Wii U also died because the Nand got corrupted from not being powered on for over a year 😔

Wispy2891@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 32d (1 reply)

But that crash screen also appears on unmodded units? Maybe it's your emunand that's corrupted? Try to remove the SD card and boot from nand

rounding_error@lemmy.today · 1 pts · 32d

I’m using the fork of GodMode9 that has a cartridge fixer and the Poké X cart definitely fails the integrity check. Also, for some reason this specific game among a few others will fail prematurely. The solution is to simply leave the fixer on for a few days.

In the meantime I’ve just pirated the game.
