TBF, Taco Bell identified it in their supply chain before the government, warned the government, and moved to remove it from their stores to avoid further spread. The supplier, Taylor Farms isn’t just in Taco Bell. They also supply grocery stores.

And, of course, Taylor Farms is well networked with the current administration, so they will probably not facing any serious consequences.

I'm pretty sure the White House announced it was a false positive after the CEO met with Trump.

Treczoks@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 35d

Yes, they did. Seeing this style of government on one side, and the still upheld illusion that the US is a "democracy" and "republic" is difficult to rationalize.

Tollana1234567@lemmy.today · 7 pts · 36d

it seems they donated quite alot to many gop pacs besides trump.

They’ll avoid criminal charges, but that’s rarely ever been the primary consequences for fordborne illness. Usually agriculture businesses and food chains suffer from lawsuits. And that legal infrastructure is still humming.

The president was unable to prevent the courts from making him pay his own victims. He can’t save Taylor Farms from being sued into the ground over this outbreak.

Fair take.

jaybone@lemmy.zip · 6 pts · 36d (4 replies)

I assume this is the result of more relaxed regulations to save money.

Serinus@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 36d (1 reply)

A little of each. There were 11 people in the US to deal with exactly this kind of thing. That team has been cut to three.

I'm sure there are other issues. Taylor Farms visiting the White House likely didn't help.

I suspect a functioning government would have been better at tracing the source. I think we still aren't sure? Maybe some lettuce and could be another source.

That team has been cut to three

125 million to one ratio seems...skewed.

Enforced Prison Labor. This is a cry for help. How would you get people's attention in their situation?

Shitting ourselves to death, a human tradition preserved from the earliest days of our species.

HubertManne@piefed.social · 21 pts · 36d (6 replies)

so like we still have not figured out the source and removed it from the system or is it we did and they paid graft to keep selling it?

Nurse_Robot@lemmy.world · 51 pts · 36d (4 replies)

Huge surprise: we got rid of all tracking and everything about keeping track of diseases. There's no funding. We cannot collect data, it's against the law.

Hawanja@lemmy.world · 14 pts · 36d (3 replies)

Huge surprise: we Trump got rid of all tracking and everything about keeping track of diseases. There’s no Elon Musk cut the funding. We cannot collect data, it’s against the law because Trump fucked it up and Elon Musk is an asshole.

Fixed that for ya.

Edit: "We" didn't do anything, because congress had no say in these changes. Let's put the blame where it belongs.

conquer4@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 36d (1 reply)

Congress didn't stop him, and the people of America voted him in. Let's not try to absolve guilt.

Hawanja@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 35d

That doesn't change the fact that he worked outside of his powers without input from congress to cut funding for these things, which is supposed to be illegal. Congress didn't stop him because Republicans are fascists. Blame the people who are actually responsible and not the victims please.

It's in Project 2025, cull the older people, thanks for the lifetime of taxes but fuck you.

EvergreenGuru@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 36d

The source was Taylor Farms and the Trump administration has sought to protect their image.

As someone who recently came close to heart failure due to diarrhea and extreme dehydration, I can tell you that it is no laughing matter.
