The Vet initially thought she had been hit by a car. She was covered in bruises and coughing up blood. After finding out she was an inside cat they deduced that she probably chewed on a wire and was electrocuted.
:::
Oh I am so sorry for both of you.
It must've been terrible to find her so terribly injured, and to make the desperate run to the vet, and then she couldn't be saved. At least they could make her passing less painful. Some cats are just so determined to do dangerous things, especially chewing/eating things they shouldn't, that there's no stopping them. Sounds like she had a fierce independent spirit in her little body. Now it's gone, but you'll see flashes of it out in the world, and feel its warmth deep in your heart. Take your time to recover. But also know that if another cat comes into the empty place in your life, her claim on you will be undiminished.
That is terrible! But it is not your fault.
Accidents happen.
My second cat was hit by a car in the night, after i shooed him away from me because i wanted to sleep and he wanted to play. It took a while to stop thinking that if only i had played with him a bit, he would not have gone out, and get hit by a car.
But that is not how the world works. Accidents happen. you cannot blame yourself and definitely cannot make the world perfectly safe.
Im so sorry. This is a fear I’ve had for a while now. You can’t hide every cord, ya just hope they don’t chew on them. Rest in peace to your beautiful kitty💕🌈❤️💕
Oh honey - I'm so sorry. That explains why she looks so young in all the pictures - it's because she was.
We lost both of ours and both dogs over the course of about a year and a half. They were every one of them old, and it was still absolutely crushing every time. To lose one so young, and to such a trauma indoors where we assume they're going to be safe - the heartbreak and shock together must be absolutely heartbreaking.
Grieve. Feel it. That’s love. It hurts and it’s heavy, but that’s just the cost of them moving from a physical reality to one of memory and emotion. Don’t shut it out - mitigate it if you have to, bit by bit. But grief, to me, has never been about those you love leaving, that’s just them knocking at your heart’s door, asking to be let in.
I’m so sorry, that’s heartbreaking. Cats are experts at getting into and doing things they shouldn’t, even when you take steps to keep them safe. Remember that she spent her time with you loved.
Yeah, even the smartest cats are only about as smart is a 3 year old. And anyone who has ever watched a 3 year old knows that they’re constantly attempting to kill themselves. The issue is that cats have the physical capacity to get into way more dangerous scenarios, because they can easily jump, climb, and squeeze into places that a 3 year old wouldn’t be able to. So even if you have toddler-proofed your house, (which is a massive task by itself) there are still plenty of things that a cat can get into.
I don't know you but I know what you're feeling right now. I lost my Orange Boy just a few weeks ago and even this weekend I still felt it. I wish I could share more comfort with you, fellow person. I can share this quote by Kate Braestrup that comforts me in times of loss:
Grief is just love squaring up to its oldest mortal enemy. After all these mortal human years, love is up to the challenge..
As bad as that feeling is right now, it means V mattered and was loved.
Give yourself a while to grieve, and maybe think about getting another cat to care for - that is the only thing that was able to make me think less about the loss of a beloved companion and keep me in the present where there is someone who needs your attention and affection.
V was gone far far too soon. I miss her so much. I basically laid in bed all day missing her. The way she used to lay on my chest and suck on her tail. She had the most expressive eyes, and the little bit of white on her brow made her look constantly concerned. Like her namesake she burned bright and is a legend. Burying two cats in less than 6 months has left me feeling hallow. Now I have two ghosts glimpsed in the corner of my eye as I walk into a room, and two little crosses behind a house I'm leaving soon.
My sincerest condolences. These little guys touch us so deeply, but they are destined to break our hearts with their short life spans. As you get older, those 15 year increments (sometimes less) add up to a lot of heartbreak, and I've know many people who have sworn off having any more pets, because as much as they truly, deeply love them, the loss is too hard for some to take. Personally, I think it is far more than worth it.
18 years ago, we were adopted by a big Tomcat, who was the king of the cul-de-sac. He tried out a few other families, but really loved my son, so he chose us. After a short probationary period, we were fully approved, and he moved his gorgeous Siamese girlfriend (of course she was, Jake had game), and their three kittens in.
No humans were consulted in any of these decisions.
I did the math back then, and knew that a time would come when we would lose them in a fairly short period of time, and that's what's happened over the last 3 years. One by one, they've left us, starting with Jake. He'd lived an adventurous life, getting drowned once, shot twice, wildly hallucinating after eating a lizard, having the only white on his body, the tip of his tail, bitten off in a raccoon fight, and surviving many fights with lesser neighborhood stray cats. He used every one of his nine lives, and borrowed a few from some of our other more timid cats. He was a true force of nature, and all our other cats looked up to him like the King he was.
Especially to Charlie, his son. To find Charlie, all you had to do was find Jake, and Charlie was probably right beside him, laying in the exact same position. We knew when Jake went, Charlie would be heartbroken, and he was. He would walk through the house at night, calling for Jake, and that broke the human hearts.
Maggie, Jake's Siamese girlfriend, was my closest companion. Siamese often bond to one person, and she chose me, sleeping next to my head most nights. Losing her was really tough for me.
There is only one left, roly poly little Chloe. When I first saw her as a kitten, I remarked at how perfectly round she was, and predicted she'd be the healthiest of them all, and she has been. We took her to the vet only a couple of times, and that was just because we thought we should. She never seemed to get sick. Today she's blind and arthritic, and maybe a little senile. She spends her days sleeping on the couch next to my wife, and when she wants a drink, she puts a paw on my wife's arm, and she'll hold a little dish for her to drink from. At 18 1/2 years old, any day could be her last, so we're treating her like a Queen, the last one standing from Jake's beautiful little cat family that gave us so much joy.
The problem with pets is that they have none of the bad aspects of living with people but they just don't live long enough. You gave her a good happy life, and death is a part of life and living.
I'm so sorry for your loss, and for poor V. She was so adorable with her markings. Losing a loved one suddenly can be traumatic, I am really feeling for you.
i lost my kitten a few months ago and miss her everyday. I whispered a prayer across the bridge to my Luce and told her to greet your V, show her around, and keep her snuggled up at night until you're both reunited. From one cat lover to another, thank you for giving V the best life by filling it with love and happiness. Big hugs and much love to you, OP.
