Report: 42% of commercial pilots confirm being given tower instructions to "do a barrel roll".

Delays expected as radio traffic devolves into immature giggles whenever a flight into Pensacola (PNS) or Charlotte (CLT) is spotted.

Try spinning, that's a neat trick

People have other skills , people can enjoy video games and be good for aviation. This doesn’t mean one equals another. The US government is basically a monkey trying to fuck a football ..

CIA_chatbot@lemmy.world · 17 pts · 5d

That’s not fair to either monkeys nor footballs

If you've been on the various Flight Simulator networks like VATSIM and IVAO, you'd know plenty of gamers would quickly transition to IRL ATC with minimal additional training. And they're used to handling some seriously chaotic and dumb shit with a straight face and perfect protocol.

Check some vids or people's ATC setups on /r/flightsim

Yeah, they are basically doing the job as a hobby already.

Air Canada 307 requesting clearance to land

You have clearance to land ON YOUR MOM lol

aeronmelon@lemmy.world · 17 pts · 5d (1 reply)

AirForceProud could run a whole airport by himself.

He would just have to watch out for hot-air balloons doing Mach 3.

Callsign Sandwich performing a 180 and returning to airport.

US Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy reported on Sunday, Aug. 9, that 94% of the hiring goal has been met, with the most ever employed in a single year.

He wrote in a social media post: "2,000+ "best & brightest" candidates in the pipeline — reaching the Academy quicker than any class before them, thanks to the most streamlined hiring process."

In April, it was stated that there were almost 11,000 controllers in service, with more than 4,000 trainees in the pipeline.

The pipeline is the 1-3 years of training it takes before they're certified to be air traffic controllers.

Wait, why is this a good thing? You can protect yourself. This is bad.

Tylerdurdon@lemmy.world · 12 pts · 5d

There's about 2000 folks that can shove that one in their mom's face.

Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 5d (6 replies)

I’m surprised there isn’t an entire genre of ATC games out there

bitjunkie@lemmy.world · 12 pts · 5d

You can play as an ATC in online flight sims

theneverfox@pawb.social · 11 pts · 5d

There are, from random clicker sims to running actual air traffic in flight sims with such realism it took me a while to be certain it was a game (and not a air traffic union or something) when I looked up the website

ThePantser@sh.itjust.works · 4 pts · 5d (1 reply)

Colab idea: ATC Sim and the planes are people flying in a flight sim so you talk to real people and instruct them.

theneverfox@pawb.social · 6 pts · 5d

Check out IVAO

TheMinions@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 3 pts · 5d

I remember there being a fun one on iOS back in the day.

Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 5d

Never played MS flight sim, huh?

SkunkWorkz@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 5d

Breaking news: Pilot dragged out of the cockpit by swat team because of false bomb reporting by air traffic controller.

grumbo@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 5d (1 reply)

How do we prevent further incidents like this from occurring?

Assemble an army of g*mers.

deliriousdreams@fedia.io · 3 pts · 5d

When you Air Traffic Controler tells you to drop 10K feet and enter the landing pattern but you do it wrong and they start waxing poetic about fucking your mom. /s

News page blocked for the EU :(

village604@adultswim.fan · 3 pts · 5d (1 reply)

There are some hardcore people in the aviation video game space. I'm sure there's 2000 people in the country who are fully qualified to be an ATC that learned it from a hyper realistic simulator.

Kolanaki@pawb.social · 2 pts · 4d

My favorite series of MSFS videos are of a dude being comitted to following actual ATC rules and yelling at the other players who ignore the tower's instructions.
