I'm sure .ml will be extremely normal about this

I wouldn't know, I blocked that entire circle jerk of a shithole domain.
Quite happier now not seeing lemmy.ml or anyone else in it.

Russian / North Korea / China, all the "communist" countries
lithiumground@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 8d
No. russia and china are not communist. China and Russia are partly capitalist.
kuiskaaja@lemmy.ml · -22 pts · 9d
i don't think there's a single person on .ml that thinks russia is a communist country
i would recommend you actually listen to people you disagree with, maybe you will learn something new
nogooduser@lemmy.world · 24 pts · 9d
That would be why they put communist in quotes.
kuiskaaja@lemmy.ml · -18 pts · 9d
no, this is a common misconception that people who critically support russia think it's communist, because those kinds of people have never actually listened to what's being said
edit: common misconception in the liberal part of lemmy

The knee jerk reaction of my older comrades in this little Left-wing party in my country (Portugal) I was a member of was, when Russia invaded Ukraine, to support Russia (though I personally brought at least one around by pointing out the parallels between Russia's invasion of Ukraine and America's invasion of Iraq), and the local Communist Party in this country still supports Russia even thought Russia is pretty much a Fascist country now.
Plenty of people learned to love Russia back when they were young (in my country, back then under a Fascist dictatorship, Communists were the main revolutionary fighters) and even though Russia changed a lot since, those old emotional bonds are still there.
Mind you, in my experience even though their heart is still pulled towards it, at least the more thinking amongst such people can be intellectually brought around to look at modern day Russia with a critical eye.
So, yeah, they intellectually don't think Russia is Communist, but they still react the same towards it as back when it was Communist, by uncritically believing what comes from there and supporting it by default.

I suspect they’d say it’s not a big deal, because they would argue North Korea is a mostly normal country, they have a right to “defend themselves” from western imperialism and so on…
I don’t know where to even begin with that. When perception of reality is that splintered, there’s not much common ground to go on.

"Something something all of these soldiers are volunteers who are paid handsomely and are merely trying to liberate Ukraine from itself."

Pornhub, prepare your servers...

For context ... North Korean soldiers become porn addicts since getting internet access for the first time.

Fun to catch little glimpses of how the very culture I inhabit is several potentially life-ruining infohazards in a trench coat.

North Korea (or China) could probably just take Russia in it's weakend state. However, I believe China will do it financially, not by sending soldiers.
daychilde@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 9d
North Korea wouldn't be able to move its forces into Russia. They do technically share a short land border that has a rail connection that would be pretty trivial for Russia to defend. It would be like trying to invade the US by landing in Alaska. And Russia could almost certinly eliminte DPRK's forces quickly. And even if they made it to Moscow, Russia is likely to use nukes if they feel they're under true threat of being overthrown. While many nukes would fail, many probably would not fail.
Also, China would come down hard on North Korea's stupidity.
affenlehrer@feddit.org · 2 pts · 9d
True. My thought was more like then sending a shitton of troops for "support" that then decide differently. However, that would probably also trigger like a nuclear response.
AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 8d
That didn't go well for Prighozin(sp?)
daychilde@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 9d
Probably. Also, they're sending troops but I don't think equipment, so you'd have unarmed soldiers - or maybe with guns - but no training to assault mechanized forces. heh

Is this why Trump is now retaliating against South Korea and egging on North Korea?

Europe union should send its army or volunteer European to offset. We know that some european country see Ukraine as a proxy to weaken imperialist Russia.
panthera_@lemmy.today · -12 pts · 9d
The UK and France should send troops to offset the North Koreans.
This is what Europe should propose to Putin. Russia will withdraw from all land it seized from Ukraine after the 2022 invasion. NATO would be dissolved and replaced with a European alliance. Ukraine and Canada would be permitted to join but not the US. All sanctions against Russia will be lifted. Russia will not be required to pay reparations. If Putin doesn't accept the proposal, the UK and France would send troops to Ukraine.
halfsak@lemmy.world · 13 pts · 9d
So no punishment for Russia? No reparations and all sanctions gone? No. They need to pay
panthera_@lemmy.today · -3 pts · 9d
The punishment is that Russia loses all the territory it seized after the 2022 invasion. You have to be realistic. Ukraine and Russia are both exhausted, but Russia is getting 50,000 North Korean reinforcements but Ukraine is getting nothing.
MBech@feddit.dk · 3 pts · 8d
They'd also get a much smaller NATO. I know we can't count on USA right now as an ally, but that can still change within the next few decades. But weakening NATO that much would be the world's biggest gift to Putin and Russia.
With peace he'd rebuild and try again in a decade, but with your proposal, without having to worry about the 50/50 chance of USA being with him or against him.
panthera_@lemmy.today · 1 pts · 7d
Ukraine would be a powerful addition to the European Alliance. Putin has to be offered something to entice him to accept the peace proposal. Remember the US would not be part of the European Alliance and would not be permitted to have a military presence in Europe but if Russia invades Europe the US could join the fight with Europe.
Illecors@lemmy.cafe · 7 pts · 9d
So... russia's aggression pays off then. Crimea belongs to Ukraine!
