Welp, I don't support Hakeem Jeffries. So, there you go.

FiniteBanjo@feddit.online · 18 pts · 13d

What happened to his primary opponents? He was scheduled for a primary election this uear but it says both of his opponents either dropped out or were disqualified and I can't find info on that.

resipsaloquitur@lemmy.cafe · 4 pts · 13d (24 replies)

WhAt you wAnT tRumP to win?!??!??!??!???!!

Vote blue no matter who! đŸ€Ș

FiniteBanjo@feddit.online · 13 pts · 13d (11 replies)

Jeffries appears to have moved past his primary election unopposed, so yes indeed people should vote for him in November.

I_Jedi@lemmy.today · 4 pts · 13d (10 replies)

Can he drum up sufficient support, though?

The "idc what happens i'm sure the blues will win somehow" voting block is doing pretty well these days.

Schmoo@slrpnk.net · 5 pts · 12d

Well right now he's doing the opposite of drumming up support by stating his opposition to near-universally popular policies and attacking the most energized portion of the base.

FiniteBanjo@feddit.online · -2 pts · 12d (8 replies)

Supporting him is done by us not him, so how we speak and how we act will decide. Start by downvoting divisive posts like this.

Schmoo@slrpnk.net · 6 pts · 12d (6 replies)

Why is it "divisive" to report on what Hakeem says, but it's not "divisive" for him to say it?

FiniteBanjo@feddit.online · 0 pts · 12d (5 replies)

Why do you assume we're worse than him?

Schmoo@slrpnk.net · 3 pts · 12d

Who's we?

I_Jedi@lemmy.today · 1 pts · 12d

Yeah I'm sure a downvote from the comfort of your desk helps at the ballot box.

wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz · 6 pts · 13d (4 replies)

You've never heard of a primary, have you?

I_Jedi@lemmy.today · 6 pts · 13d

Ah yes, the ancient Roman custom of primaries. Magnus Magnentius winning the primary against Constans is one of the most famous primaries in history.

resipsaloquitur@lemmy.cafe · 0 pts · 13d (2 replies)

Sure have.

Looking forward to your support of El-Sayed!

FiniteBanjo@feddit.online · 6 pts · 13d

El-Sayed won his primary, so you're welcome.

Also, El-Sayed isn't a current DSA member.

wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz · 3 pts · 12d

He'd have my vote if I lived in Michigan

The fact that establishment Dems roll over against Republicans should tell you everything you need to know.

eurodyne@piefed.world · 85 pts · 13d (15 replies)

You dumb Cunt

And to think, I helped get this guy elected to the Senate for his first term. I campaigned for this asshole. I canvassed. I had a lanyard. I had a clipboard. I knocked on doors. I convinced others to vote for him.

I met him and shook his hand. and this motherfucker lied right to my goddamn face.

I feel fucking dirty, and I feel disgusting for spreading that filth to others

Edit: the Hakeem Jeffries wasn’t in front of the Javiz Center at the BLM protest
But I was and I can bring that fight to the next election
And the next. Didn’t bet on that did you, Hakeem? Well, fuck you. And fuck that horse of entitlement you rode in on.

You know what else survived the NYPD crackdown at the Javits center? This watch (cracks courtesy of the NYPD):

And this watch says your time has run out.

hoppeduponcoffee@lemmy.zip · 5 pts · 12d (1 reply)

I can only hope a lot of MAGA voters feel betrayed the same way. That pretty optimistic though, trump has his stupid cult of personality around him. Plus he’s actually following through on a lot of his campaign promises, unlike the lying dem mfs.

eurodyne@piefed.world · 6 pts · 12d

I saw a recent video of an interview with the Trump voter that said they regretted voting for Donald Trump because “ICE wasn’t hurting the right people“

These people who voted for Trump are fucking sociopaths, just like Trump. they have nothing but hate in their hearts, and they voted for Trump because they wanted to hurt others. they voted for Trump because they believed he would be the agent of pain and destruction for fellow Americans that they did not like. people like you and me.

It’s like that video of the old man crying on the news weeping because his Haitian wife got dragged off to the concentration camps, with him crying “but I’m a business owner! I voted for Trump three times! Why did he come after my wife?“ Why did you think you were special, asshole?

THAT’S HOW FASCISM WORKS!!!

FiniteBanjo@feddit.online · -20 pts · 13d (10 replies)

Calm down, guy, the Primary for NY district 8 ended already. Like it or not we want Jeffries to win in November, because even if you don't believe his words you definitely shouldn't believe the child rape and human cattle party that is the GOP.

eurodyne@piefed.world · 18 pts · 13d (9 replies)

Calm down, guy,

Reign it in, Cuntalicious— this story was from 2011-2012. Were you ever born then? Lmao.

And just because Jeffries isn’t currently being challenged for his district, doesn’t mean he isn’t a Titanic piece of shit. It also doesn’t mean that you aren’t a Titanic piece of shit for trying to stick up for him. Really, what is he done that you are willing to defend? Fuck you.

I bet you don’t even live in this district, ya poser.

FiniteBanjo@feddit.online · -7 pts · 12d (4 replies)

Him not being a Republican is still enough to defend with everything we have in November. He wants to reform the scotus and undo cuts to medicare and social security. We need him to win in Novemver so go get your fucking canvassing clipboard out.

kreskin@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 12d

fyzzlefry@retrolemmy.com · -9 pts · 13d (3 replies)

You know, if you have a strong argument you don't need to resort to aggression and name calling.

raze2012@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 12d

I don't think this is an argument. OP has a personal vendetta with a high pfofile figure and telling him to "calm down we need him" doesn't remove that betrayal. He wasn't even disagreeing with the reply. Just asserting what we all already know in that Jeffries does not have the people's priorities in mind.

Him not being as bad as a literal nazi isn't a high bar to meet.

I_Jedi@lemmy.today · 5 pts · 13d

When I have a weak argument, I like to go with the "God told me I'm right in a vision, unbeliever" option. Works every time.

lemmyseikai@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 13d

Research into rhetoric disagrees if the person is using themselves as part of the argument. If they bring in their credibility then an ad hominem is rhetorically the correct response.

With that fun fact of the way, in this instance I think you are right.

We are the moderates. Current Dem leadership are regressive.

ripcord@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 13d (1 reply)

Ok but nazis first right

YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today · 4 pts · 12d

Yes. Order of operations and all that.

Schmoo@slrpnk.net · 4 pts · 12d (2 replies)

You gotta do both at the same time or you won't get rid of either of them. If they act as a unified bloc we should treat them as such.

Major_Tsiom@fedia.io · 5 pts · 12d (1 reply)

In one fell swoop? We don't have that choice, and even if we did, the numbers aren't there. If it is a decision between a Republican and a centrist Democrat, I'll take the centrist no contest. You have to vote for social democrats in the primaries first. In general elections, I just vote against Republicans.

Schmoo@slrpnk.net · 1 pts · 12d

The strategy you describe is concurrent, or as concurrent as it can be. If you're a stickler for details it's actually the reverse of the order of operations you laid out, since the primary comes before the general.

Instead, Jeffries argued Democrats should focus on making healthcare more affordable by reversing Republican-enacted Medicaid cuts and extending Affordable Care Act tax credits that he said have helped millions of Americans manage insurance costs.

So basically he's saying that now that Republicans hamstringed our healthcare, we should change our goals and just go back to how things were??? I feel like this is the most obvious it has ever been that establishment dems are NOT on our (the people's) side.

FiniteBanjo@feddit.online · -1 pts · 12d (11 replies)

TBF Jeffries cosponsored single payer bills for a decade. It's probably a better indication of his specific decline rather than the party itself.

Jeffries needs to win in November, though.

PepperoniNipple@lazysoci.al · 3 pts · 11d (8 replies)

You are so weird.

  • @UnderpantsWeevil - 24k comments, 1 account, joined 3 years ago~
  • @SatansMaggotyCumFart - Almost 15k comments, 9 accounts, joined 3 years ago~

You three motherfuckers sound almost the exact same, with a few different quirks. American Exceptionalists who constantly try to convince people of supporting this system and this democratic party as is.

I just saw UnderpantsWeevil commenting in this post about the USS Lincoln (https://lemmy.world/post/50817587) pretty much implying that Gavin Newsom is going to be the next president. What the fuck? The difference between him and you and Satan is that he seems to be a little pro-China. Satan hates China. I don't know about you, but, you all overlap hard with the American Exceptionalism, you being some of the oldest active accounts I have seen in Lemmy ever since I joined it after the Reddit API fiasco, and the insane amount of activity all of you have in this platform.

Do you even have a job or how the fuck do you three have so many comments here? And why the hell are you always trying to sway people to be pro-America no matter what? You still want America to be the "world police," to meddle in other countries and whatnot. You are right now telling people that this Hakeem Jeffrey POS "needs to win in November" even after all the evil shit he says and does. Someone just posted a photo of him looking at Netanyahu like a wife, that's the kind of evil corpo bootlicker monster he is.

Why? Why can't you instead tell people that they deserve better than this loser?

I get your angle about not letting any republican in power, but what the fuck is this, man? Are you feds or something??

FiniteBanjo@feddit.online · -3 pts · 11d (7 replies)

This mf over here writing novellas in the comment section while complaining about number of comments.

hraegsvelmir@ani.social · 5 pts · 11d (5 replies)

Probably because you publish a sheer volume of comments that rivals a coked up Stephen King's output trying to browbeat people into not believing their eyes and ears when establishment Democratic figures are being as blatant as they can be in demonstrating they are not on the side of the people and will not be coming to help us, but fighting against us when it comes to down to it.

It's fucking exhausting to have every thread be full of you guys going "But see, he said he'd only break one of your arms and legs if he wins, not both of them!" as if that's supposed to make people suddenly say, "You know what, that's great, he's got my vote." when folks simply point out he's said these things and wish that he would commit to not breaking any of our limbs if elected instead. "Ah, but harm reduction! The republicans will break both your arms and legs if they win." Yeah, and assholes like Hakeem Jeffries will be holding you down while they do it to make sure they don't miss while you squirm, thanks a lot.

One of his few good points, and it may be accidental is that it’s hard to sell a tax increase.

My health insurance premium is way higher than my Medicare tax, so I can recognize that tripling the Medicare tax in my income bracket in order to support Medicare for all will actually save me money.

But there are a lot of people who would stop at tripling the Medicare tax is bad. It would be a hard sell to get past that.

The only real problem with tripling the Medicare tax is that it’s a fixed percentage and is capped, but really ought to be progressive with no cap

BigMacHole@thelemmy.club · 7 pts · 11d

It's ONE of the MOST Difficult things to Tell people their Monthly costs will LOWER! Be LESS! SAVE Money! I cant' even do it!

zbyte64@awful.systems · 5 pts · 11d

Selling a good thing like Medicare for all is a skills issue at this point. And if we keep hiring Democrats who lack that level of communication skills, then don't blame the voters for failing to know what is at stake.

Rakonat@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 11d

It's one of those things that boggles me. People will happily hundreds of dollars a month for a 'service' they barely use and is notorious for finding ways to not honor providing the service for any number of reasons.

But the second you rephrase it as a tax, even a tax that would cost them less and provide them better services, they just don't want any part of it and cling to the broken model like any kind of tax is an impediment of their rights.

droans@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 11d

This is why the idea of "Medicare for those who want it" seems appealing to me. Until you reach a certain threshold (say, 70%), make both the tax and benefits optional.

It's not optimal by any stretch but it's easier to sell it as an optional tax and benefit.

EmpireInDecay@lemmy.ml · -4 pts · 13d

And DSA will still back him
