Signalis.

Seconding this suggestion as I've actually played it. The scares are really low-key, too (more on the psychological side) so even my little baby ass was able to get through it alright.

Incredible game. Great story, great gameplay, absolutely gripping from start to finish.

Darkwood is the most unsettling game I've ever played.

No, I'm not Human is a great little game.

Water Womb World is free on Steam. It's short but it's really something.

Didnt play them myself, but World of Horror and Look Outside are apparently good ones.

I can confirm both are excellent entries on the indie horror list.

Iron Lung. Very clever premise. Deeply, intensely creepy throughout.

market pliers????

Voroxpete@sh.itjust.works · 5 pts · 1d (1 reply)

Same one.

Also, for very much the same reasons I'll also recommend Observation. Play as an AI aboard a space station, trying to keep its remaining crew member alive after some kind of unknown event knocks out power and does.... Other things. Absolutely superb twist on the genre, with a great sense of mystery and wonder.

Seconding this one! It's very underappreciated and so wonderfully atmospheric. Also one of the most banger title sequences of all time

No one lives under the lighthouse

I'm not much of a horror game player, but I enjoyed this one (especially the graphics)

Dredge is like cozy cosmic horror. Great game.

no nsfw plz

Unique_Emerald_Sol_I@sh.itjust.works · 12 pts · 1d (1 reply)

Considering you're specifically asking for horror games, I would suggest clarifying what you mean by "no nsfw" -- because there's going to be a lot of horror games that don't contain any nudity/sexual elements that would still qualify as NSFW due to gore, body horror, and other disturbing imagery.

Fierro@piefed.social · 6 pts · 1d

Good point, wee need clarification, OP. I personally just don't like gooner games, for example, but I don't have a problem with nudity or sexuality (and I try not to exclude it when browsing which makes things hard, pun not intended).

I'd recommend Crow Country. It's very old school resident evil/silent hill influenced. Not the longest game, but very worth your time. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1996010/Crow_Country/

Lost in Vivo's one that hasn't been mentioned yet, so I'll pick that one. Your mission is to find your lost service dog that got flushed down a storm drain

Faith: The Unholy Trinity

It's an 8-bit horror game. Not sure if this is what you are looking for. I definitely recommend it if you are not put off by 8-bit graphics.

Receiver 2 in my opinion. Not exactly horror but I still have flashbacks from the activation Beep from kill drones. Mechanically tricky to learn though.

I love Envelope. It's a weird mystery story in an open-world little town, where you're mysteriously given an ominous mission and there are many ways to try to achieve it, and many ways to fail. It's super fun.

little nightmares 1-3, reanimal

I have not played it but I have seen a lot of gameplay of it, Voices of the void might be worth checking.
