Is there a Lemmy+Piefed combined graph too? That's most interesting to me, to see whether the Threadiverse as a whole is bleeding users or people are just moving from Lemmy to Piefed.

Vicinus@piefed.zip · 11 pts · 1d (1 reply)

Not a graph, but here's a post that has the infomation you're interested in.

TL:DR - The threadiverse (Lemmy+Piefed+Mbin) is:

  • 1 month ago: +0.8%
  • 3 months ago: +7.2%
  • 6 months ago: -5.2%
  • 1 year ago: +0.1%

Basically, roughly 5k MAU moved from Lemmy to Piefed.

Edit: alt threadiverse link: https://threadiverse.link/piefed.zip/c/fedilytics@piefed.zip/p/1759999/growth-of-the-fediverse-20260823 nvm threadiverse link is broken

Thank a lot for this beautiful table ! ❤️ Good job 🐙

Snoopy@piefed.social · 3 pts · 1d (1 reply)

That would be interesting. I can't achieve that with the website fediobserver. We will have to open a table but i'm too lazy ^^

I admit i don't understand lemmy graph in march. Losing so much users in the span of three months is probably an error.

Is that when lemm.ee went down?

It's strange that WriteFreely has more users than Lemmy because its main "instance" (https://write.as/) is an expensive paid product. Or do most people using it self-host that software?

Snoopy@piefed.social · 9 pts · 1d (1 reply)

I think most of them selfhost the software. Few kittens purpose a writefreely instance

one_old_coder@piefed.social · 3 pts · 1d

Thanks for the answer.

Vicinus@piefed.zip · 5 pts · 1d

I had a conversation with the Fediverse-Observe dev and Writefreely is under a spam wave (90% of MAU are spam bots, ~15k real MAU).

flamingos@feddit.uk · 5 pts · 1d

The writefreely thing seem to just be a mix of spam (just look at blog.dakloifarwa.de, the top instance) and I think the way it reports users is wrong. write.owu.one apparently has 11K active users and reports having >11K posts, but there's not a single one on the website?

poVoq@slrpnk.net · 2 pts · 1d

Writefreely instances are for some reason spam account magnets. Those users are for sure 99% spam bots.

Effectively, the fediverse is Mastodon.

This is why PieFed added the option to follow Mastodon users recently.

pienz@feddit.org · 3 pts · 1d (1 reply)

I always felt this was a concept I would see more of, when I first started reading about the fediverse I assumed most apps or platforms would support all types of content and just present them differently

rimu@piefed.social · 8 pts · 1d

That is the dream and something that overly-enthusiastic proponents pretend is already real.

It's kinda true if your view of the fediverse is just Mastodon and friends. But once you expand the definition of fediverse to be "anything that uses ActivityPub", e.g. the threadiverse, it is much less true.

I'm hoping to bridge that gap, better than it has been in the past.

mrdown@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1d

Mastodon domination is slowly but surely decreasing

vk6flab@lemmy.radio · 6 pts · 1d (1 reply)

The 19 million users for nodebb seems .. odd. What's the story there?

Snoopy@piefed.social · 5 pts · 1d

I don't know. Probably technical stuff related to incremental activitypub support in nodebb. Let's just ask, Julian. I hope that's the correct handle. :)

I apologize in advance for the ping : @julian@activitypub.space

Snoopy@piefed.social · 2 pts · 1d

It's a WIP, I'm adding the correct number u.u

Done :3

Funny, I was on Pixelfed for a bit but it seemed to me that there was no one there and not much going on. How wrong I was, apparently.

Dju@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 23h (1 reply)

How are we smaller than PeerTube, it feels like there's barely anything going on over there?

Snoopy@tarte.nuage-libre.fr · 1 pts · 17h

I don't think that we are smaller than peertube. The combined threadiverse rocks ! 🦾
