Democrats to investigate ‘miraculous’ rise of Trump Jr’s investment firm

Democrats on a powerful US congressional committee have launched an investigation into a venture capital firm which has thrived since recruiting Donald Trump’s son.

Donald Trump Jr joined 1789 Capital as a partner just days after his father won a second term in office in November 2024. Congressman Jamie Raskin, ranking member of the US House of Representatives judiciary committee, has asked the president’s son to detail the firm’s recent success.

...

“Two years ago,” Raskin wrote, 1789 Capital was “a struggling venture capital firm that earned consistently disappointing results by serially investing in total market flops” but has since undergone a “miraculous transformation”.

“With Don Jr’s new leadership role, 1789 Capital has developed an uncanny ability to identify companies that are about to receive massive influxes of cash from the Trump administration or to benefit from significant changes in federal policies and regulations,” the top Democrat wrote. “They say there is no such thing as a sure thing in investing, but this is about as close as you can get.”

It's obvious, isn't it? Jr. is a incredibly skilled and a genius that world has never seen before, everybody says so.

the only way I'm saying that is if it's a way to get close enough with a 2x4.

(oops, did I say that out loud?)

Doubt.

I hope they prosecute, but I expect them to do nothing

Watching Mamdani and Trump really made me realize how much our politicians simply choose to do nothing

Mamdani is actually helping the people of New York. He's working to solve daily issues that were ignored for decades

Trump is working to enrich himself and his friends and family. It's incredibly corrupt, but he's shown just how much power a president has if they want to use it

They just want in on it.

Oh no 👀 Is this leading to another sternly written letter of concern for the Trumps?

Don Jr. is no longer coke screaming into the internet so you know he's up to something nefarious with all of the quietude.

Okay...? And...? Unless they decide to have some spines for once and DO something about any of it, then it just seems like they're wasting time/effort/taxpayer dollars just for a piece of paper that says "He did a bad". Kinda feels like if I walked up to Genghis Khan mid-battle and was like "Actually, by law of the ruler of XYZ, you can't be here" and then I'm shot by a thousand arrows

Almost like if the people want any action they better vote in primaries and then vote Democrat in the general to give them any power to do anything...

Outcome: he's a typical Gross Old Pedo Republican who does what they always do. Fucking grifters.

I thought congress legalized insider trading? Isn’t this pot calling the kettle black?

godsammitdam@lemmy.zip · 3 pts · 12h

Hold on, Jeffries needs another secret meeting first to make sure we don't prosecute him.
