I cannot function without stress. I don't work better under stress, I can ONLY work if I'm stressed. So all my life I'm rushing and hurrying artificially even if there is no objective reason to do that. This model was working great for me all my life until now when I'm in my twenties and my body is collapsing with GERD, proctological issues, bruxism, headaches, tinnitus, fibromyalgia... They say, "Oh, you just have to do things based on novelty and interes" but bitch you cannot make EVERYTHING interesting and new. When I start to give a fuck about everything and relax I end up doing no shit. And honestly I don't know what to do. The meds they were giving me just cause the same stress artificially elevating my noradrenaline and the evening crush is even worse compared to days when I'm stressing myself on my own means. I feel myself in a "stress yourself out and die or don't do anything and die as well" situation... Psychiatrist and meds, psychologist, supplements, weekly meetings in ADHD support group, physical activity, good sleep, good nutrition, all these ergonomical lifehacks like "pomodoro", "make the task easy", "just divide the task into subtasks", "reward yourself", "body double", "listen to podcasts while cleaning" etc... All this shit is not working. There is no brand new method left that I haven‘t tried and I'm deeply frustrated. I can only stress myself out until my body completely desintegrates. Just venting

What helped me, is to realize that those chores can feel good to do, if your body feels good first. My issue was that I forget that I can feel okay in the first place because I'm always behind on everything including sleep. Since lack of sleep clouds my judgement and hurts me this much, now I prioritize it more so I started doing quick 2min workouts at home to get better sleep (load a backpack with books if you don't have weights). I still struggle with getting enough sleep, but the quality of sleep is seriously a game changer when your muscles don't subconsciously ache and make you restless in your sleep. That 2min is the difference between me enjoying my weekend and relaxing vs. laying in bed stressed and not getting anything done which continues the cycle for next week.

I'm glad you found something that works for you!
Would you mind elaborating on your workout? When and what primarily. e.g. What are you doing with the backpack full of weights, and are you doing this when you wake up, just before bed, just before chores, etc.

Thanks, I hope everyone can find physical activities that work for them. If you don't use your muscles you lose them. I change it up depending on muscle group throughout the week but it's mostly just basic curls, overheads, squats, sometimes lawnmower pull type workouts for the back. I invested in an adjustable dumbell recently but there's very little difference between that and a backpack. Any time day would benefit me but it's easier to get started in the evening when I'm worrying about sleep for the next day again.

Reminds me of one of my favorite Calvin and Hobbes quotes. I work best under last-minute panic!

🎶 I'm addicted to stress that's the way that I get things done
If I'm not under pressure then I sleep too long
And I hang around like a bum
And I think I'm going nowhere and that makes me nervous🎶

Not sure what meds you tried, but it sounds like simulants. I have had more luck with the non simulants like Wellbutrin. It doesn't increase my anxiety, but it does help lower the bar to doing things I don't want to do.
It's not magic, but it's not nothing.

I do not functuon under stress. I'm constantly stressed. I have PTSD. So I'm fucked. It's just chaos, stress and meltdown. I'm not doing anything productive. Can't do a job, can't do a hobby.

If it helps im kinda the opposite. I function worse and worse under stress until I lock up. You may think this is great but practically all of society is made now to be stressful. government things have massive consequences and cryptic procedures for the stress. private enterprise literally fucks with you to try and get you to fail so they can get penalties and interest. Computers should make it easier but literally it was easier to do things before. I mean if you use your apps on a smartphone and give them every piece of your information maybe they will let you function. Just bend over and open wide and you can live.

This is so painfully familar, the only thing that works for me outside of ilicit speedpaste is shitloads of caffeine.

I'm kinda the same, and although I sometimes have doubts about my meds inducing artificial stress, they're also helping me quite a bit to do stuff and also to cope with 'real' stress.
I'd suggest maybe try a lower dose for a while and see if you feel better. Or try a different kind of medication altogether. Maybe it's just not the right one for you.
Also, on a side-note, it's okay to vent, of course, and I don't know your specific story. But please don't let your frustration become absolute. That path leads to darkness. Reconsider your dismissal of all the other coping strategies. None of that stuff works over night and none of it is a silver bullet, of course, but they can still be helpful.
Be mindful about your expectations and your evaluation of the results, try to focus on one or two strategies at a time and try to stick with them for at least a month or two. And don't give up if you skip a few days. Skip days are okay and unavoidable. Allow yourself time to form new habits and your brain to learn to incorporate strategies.

How long have you been on these meds? Sounds to me like they're not really helping. I felt a lot like you described before I got on my meds, but mine reduce the stress I feel, and make it easier for me to get up and act at the same time.

Hey Bruce Banner! Hulking out is definitely your super-power, but ya gotta temper that a bit. Learn to bring on the chemical dump without the hangover and self-hate.
When my buddy starts getting expressive, hand-wavy and amplified, we know it's the situation and not him or anything else. He's gonna be legendary in like 5 minutes, talk too fast for human parsing, and lay down code or rescue a cat or macGuyver something awesome; then he's gonna get emo and regretful and think we judge him for it, as the chemical dump purges.
It's all good.
