Yeah, but it's bigger than that. The dutch sent all of their religious extremists here for instance, they rounded them up at church one sunday and herded them onto ships at the point of a bayonet.
A lot of religious crazies came here, and helped convert more weak minded fools while here. Evangelicals being the main problem now.
In a way "kinda weird" is still normal. People in real life are kinda weird, we have different things we like, not just missionary position for the purpose of procreation. There's collars and vegetables used in non-culinary ways, toe-sucking and fantasies and handcuffs, etc. Normal people often do kinda weird stuff.
True but this is the bad kind of weird in my personal opinion. Much of Europe is still quite puritanical--it's just by comparison to other places they appear enlightened.
What do you mean save for spain? The colonists and later the US residents HATED the dons, which is what the aristocracy of the spaniards were known.
Aaron Burr actually was trying to mount a private invasion of mexico to make himself emporer of it when his political rival, Thomas Jefferson, whom he lost the presidency to by one vote, (electors, eatch congressaman and senator got an elector back then,) and instead was elected vice president prior, (second highest vote getter for prez was vp then,) had him arrested and charged under false charges to get rid of his rival.
Burr remarked prior to all of this that jefferson moralized on all subjects yet was a piece of shit in his own life, I'm paraphrasing.
Anyway, the trial was a spectacle, Andrew Jackson came in on Burr's side, (Jackson was even more of a piece of shit than jefferson but that's another story.) There was a big camp on Burr's side. One notable purposefully bumped into jefferson's hack supporter on the street during the trial, made a scene, and challenged him to a duel. Shit was hot. Burr got a not guilty verdict. Forget where the trial was but I think fed court in virginia but don't quite recall.
There can be exceptions to the rule, but there are plenty of indicators with problems occurring in the current film and video game markets that spell out Americans would sooner let children see graphic violence than the hideous abomination that is the human nipple.
"Federal Communications Commission". It's a U.S. agency. Originally established to make sure radio broadcasters play nice with the "commons" that is the radio frequency spectrum. They're the ones who maintain the rules about who is allowed to broadcast on what wavelength and such. Radio and TV stations have to register with the FCC. WIFI wavelengths are under the FCC's jurisdiction. That sort of thing.
But they decided that their jurisdiction also extends to deciding what's too "obscene" to be allowed to be broadcast over the air waves. Cable TV is out of scope because the signal travels over wires rather than over radio waves, and so in the U.S. the rules for cable are much more lenient.
But yeah. Any content made for TV that would go over radio waves (even if it also goes over cables) basically has to follow FCC's rules for morality. And they're pretty strict. Such shows can't say "shit" or "cock" or "pussy" whatever. (Though the FCC is kind enough to make exceptions for if you're unambiguously referring to a rooster when you say "cock" etc.) And they can't show anyone flipping the bird without blurring the offending hand.
Lots of artists and content make reference to how strict the FCC is. For instance, I think this is a song from Family Guy about that (but YouTube says it's "inappropriate for some users" and I have to log in to confirm my age, but fuck that.) I think the FCC is even a running joke on Family Guy. Also, Eminem's song "Without Me" also says "the FCC won't let me be, won't let me be me so let me see. They try to shut me down on MTV...". (Though when it comes to Eminem, they may have a point. Lol.)
I suspect "MTV" rhyming with "FCC" and "let me be" and "me be me" was worth more than technical correctness.
The FCC did try to "shut Eminem down." There was an incident where a radio station played a sanitized version of his song "The Real Slim Shady" and the FCC still fined the radio station claiming even the "clean" version was still too indecent for broadcast.
The whole thing had nothing to do with "MTV", but yeah.
The Federal Communications Commission. It's a US government agency that regulates all communications broadcasts (TV, radio, Internet, satellite, etc.).
A lot of Americans have shitty, immature, views on sexuality and the human body.
I remember some coworkers and I chatting about it, and two of them both said they'd rather their kid watch a movie where someone got shot in the head than one where someone received oral sex.
Are you European? Do you think nothing matters? I have been around far too many Europeans that think that way and definitely do not look towards Europe for what I want America to be. Is it the desensitization of nudity? Probably not alone. But it's one tiny piece of the nihilistic puzzle.
Look, you have it, you enjoyed it, and now it's no longer a big deal. In other words, you no longer enjoy it like you once did. We'd rather not go that way. Everything in moderation. We'll save the cyberpunk dystopia for another day.
IDK, I just think that movies where the actors are having sex that competes with porn movies is incredibly stupid and boring and doesn't add anything to the movie. It's like if we had similar scenes of the actors taking a poop. Like WTF are we seeing that for?
It's not edgy, it's not liberating, it's just stupid and boring and honestly 99 times out of 100 off-putting.
IDK why the fuck they do it? One thing is if it's a short clip, that an be OK, but in some movies these clips a freaking LONG, like yes we get it, they slept together, does the scene have to be sop long so I could go to the bathroom and not miss anything?
Or am I weird, do people find it hot?
Usually in European movies it's shorter and done more elegantly, American movies it's becoming like hard core porn. But if I wanted to watch porn, I'd fucking watch a porn movie instead wouldn't I?
If it's off-putting, it's not boring.
If it's off-putting, it literally is edgy.
If one represses something off-putting, it's very liberating to reveal it.
You're right about one thing. You don't know why they do it.
Why make any movie? Days of Thunder? So what? He races a car. We get it. Just play the opening credits and the end credits back to back. My Left Foot? Some people have one leg. Big deal. Why do we have to see him struggling? It's like someone taking a dump. Just show the ball going into the net. Actually, I have PTSD about getting hit with a ball. Just do the credits end to end again.
Why do we need to see things any single person could be slightly offended by? Star Wars? Come on. We all know how battles go, and, dude; like, why do we have to see oppression and poverty or extreme fascism? Those nine movies could just be a greeting card with "may the force be with you" inside.

Just because you don't appreciate creative works doesn't make them unworthy of expression. Nobody is forcing anyone to watch anything.
I mean it's fair to say in some movies there's jarring scenes that pull from the rest of the concept of the movie. IE if you are watching a rom com, and they decide to throw in a 30 minute chase scene, it's likely to detract from rather than add to the movie. Some scenes bundle well, some scenes bore half of the audience, and would have done better as seperate things.
It's always fair to complain about parts of a movie that you didn't like, because the quantity of complaints on the whole either encourages the existing movie makers to shift their movies, or in the best case scenerio, encourages someone else to make a movie more focused on the things you like without the parts you don't.
It's not a strawman, it's https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reductio_ad_absurdum and you are not good at this. You're obviously motivated by personal bugaboos that you are not willing to acknowledge or examine, and that avoidance is making you take irrational, hyperbolic positions.
Which ones? For, you know, fact-checking. Because all the US movies I've seen lately show a lot more violence than love sex. Maybe you're just watching 80s movies?
American movies it’s becoming like hard core porn.
lol what the hell are you on about? The only non-porn movies where I've seen a actual penis actually go into a actual vagina, have been European. French mostly. And its not like there's one or two of those, there's like a dozen of those every year.
