Big time. Or it's the lifetime privileged people who have family money, parents bought them their first house, maybe grandparents also provide daycare.
I’m not optimistic when it comes to the environment. I absolutely do not wish to subject another person to the future I’m imagining. To me, choosing not to bring a child into this world is the greatest act of love I can show them.
It seems unreasonable and unfair look down on present or future parents, though. After all, maybe I’m wrong, and things won’t be as bad as I expect.
Yeah that's bs. My BIL and his wife are very well aware and thats why they went childfree. They prefer to have the time to themselves at home, and focus on being an awesome aunt/uncle.
Another BIL and his wife had different reasons which are quite personal, but to the same result - they would prefer to just be awesome as an aunt and uncle.
Its a personal choice anyway, I'm not sure why anyone gives a shit about what someone else decides to do or not do.
I will judge one of them for their lack of effort in their ren faire costume. Thats well deserved judgment though.
Friends who are younger than us came for dinner. She mentioned finding her first grey hair (age ~30). I told them that everyone I know with kids has some grey hairs (new parents). I have grey hairs too, but mine came later. Kids are hard, make you old faster. Good if you want them. It doesn't make you special.
I dont have kids because i will probably manslaughter them by leaving them in a hot car. Or something similar. I know myself, know my limits. I wish more people were like me, kids dying in cars are horrifying. Not that i would judge anyone this happens to. It could happen to anyone, i just suspect that i personally have a higher than average likelihood of doing this. Can barely keep myself alive at the best of times.
I am also a weirdo. I came here because it came up on my feed. I do find antinatalism pretty bizarre. If you don't want your own that's fine, why do you need a club?
If you got your way this would be the last generation of the human race, and the end of intelligent life in the universe as far as we are aware.
Because of all the insufferable cunts walking around spewing how everyone should have children so why aren't we they're a miracle etc etc yadda yadda and so on. It's nice to have a space to talk about things where that isn't going to happen, because we have other things to think about. Which, now that I mention it, is another luxury we're afforded by not having kids.
The idea is that not everyone needs to have children. The idea is not that nobody should have children.
I decided at a young age that I probably shouldn't have kids. I figured that if my parents, who I loved and respected, couldn't raise me without so much pain and suffering, I wouldn't do good enough for my own children.
I later realized they were abusive. I still don't want children of my own. Too many parents treat having children like a casual thing. Too many parents treat children like pets or possessions instead of people. Children suffer immeasurably for decisions made by others.
I see "Jesus" in your name. The bible encourages reckless breeding and child abuse. It's why my christian parents aren't even sorry about what they did to us. They think they're going to heaven for it.
Take care not to support child abuse or death cults. Thanks.
Decided to check your comment history and last week you were on WomensStuff being a mysoginistic douche to them as well.
Women are not fleshlights to continue your pathetic legacy, and if they choose to not have children and you get upset about it, you are a fascist chode, which is a bit worse than being "weird," I'd say.
Your recent comment history is you getting downvoted and having comments deleted on a thread about the wage gap, color me shocked that you reply to me saying that women focused comms are "full of wackos."

"Why don't they sympathize with me for choices I willingly made?"
Simple. I sympathize more with the children.

Life is already hard enough, no thanks.

As people without kids, that it's so hard us literally the reason why I don't have them?
I feel like more people who DO have them thought it was easier than it is.

I love my nieces and nephews and all my friends kids. Kids are great!
But my wife and I are not suited for raising kids, so we aren't having our own.

Sounds to me the commentator did not realize how hard till he had them and if he had he would not have.
Murse@slrpnk.net · 11 pts · 5d
It is a damn walk in the park compared to what that kid is going to have to deal with.
Not having children isn't an act of laziness, it's an act of mercy.
Kolanaki@pawb.social · 9 pts · 5d
Making them is easy and fun.
Raising them is hard and expensive.
noseatbelt@piefed.ca · 2 pts · 5d
Let's remember that "making them" doesn't end when the bun is in the oven. Some people never recover from growing a human inside them.

Not-childfree person from all here

Anyone having kids right now is willfully ignorant or cruel.

It's still harder than you're thinking and in ways you've never imagined. Also most people aren't you weirdos

And that's why we want no part of it. Also did you just come here to call us weirdos, you weirdo?

Not everyone who is childfree is anti-natalist. I'm fine with you having kids, but I don't want any.
If it's fine, then why are you whining about me having a "club"?
I'm not antinatalist, but I also don't see why this is bad. Is this going to be some kind of weird religious argument?
destructdisc@lemmy.world · 16 pts · 5d
Sounds good to me and I'm not even antinatalist, just childfree.
That is an astounding amount of hubris you're displaying there.
