I recently installed an electricity usage monitor on my home server and it made me realize something I knew but never consciously acknowledged: every action I take has an associated cost, however small.
Playing a game adds about 600W of consumption. That means a three hour gaming session runs about 0,63 €. It's obvious, but I've had some form of PC on 24/7 nearly my entire life, so I never truly thought about it.
It seems like someone would have used a lightpipe to direct sunlight to use as a backlight on a monitor--just for fun--but I couldn't find anything. I blame search enshittification.

And the fake light in the video game is actually converted into real light if I stare directly at the lamp and turn on HDR on my monitor.

Even with how much video games have advanced, they've never managed to put a generator in a game that produces more energy than it consumes.
