My most-used chat app is Discord, and that one has custom emojis.
These are my most frequently used "emojis" there:
I think the main problem is that they get stripped from their context? So it becomes unclear whether an emoji is used in earnest or whether it is used sarcastically or ironically.
The custom emojis do add a bit of a personal touch though
No, people are far more complex then pictograms can show. Pictograms outside of conversational context can not carry intent which is pretty important with working out a personality.
True that. But I feel like you can at least glean something from what pictograms they choose to express themselves with. Like how you can with the posters they choose to hang in their room.
I feel like there's significant influence from both personality and age group. Maybe even a three way with experienced social culture. You'd have to know what emojii usage they see daily to know what personality they might have
used to mean: I love you, coming home, by bike, by train, I like this, I hear you, incomplete to-do, completed to-do, removed to-do, WTF is wrong with them

Your favorite emojis are saying something about you, but it's usually not enough information to describe your personality.

Mine are very boring. I used to be a fan of sparkling, particularly โจsarcasticallyโจ, until AI ruined that emoji for everyone. ๐

I very rarely use emojis. Ironically I mostly use them on desktop. KDE Plasma has a pretty nice emoji picker app.
Postmortal_Pop@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 3d
Hey what's that app called? I'm running KDE and I really want to turn all my commands into emojis

Zarobi@aussie.zone · 0 pts · 2d
The emoji keyboard on my phone keeps track of that (Gboard). Discord also does if you use that.
