So what? The US government is massively untrustworthy.
FluidBeef@quokk.au · 61 pts · 23h
You don’t prioritise a deal with a serial backslider who will break the deal by introducing tariffs on a whim. Also none of us even want chlorinated hormone meat.

When the person you sleep with shits the bed repeatedly and on purpose, at some point you change partner. What a concept eh...

I'm stuck over here and I'm like "Brussles is dope. Why would they prefer us?
k0e3@lemmy.ca · 33 pts · 12h
Because the US is choosing Russia and Israel over allies.
CapuccinoCoretto@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 8h
And even over itself.
Doomsider@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 4h
Choosing Russia and China over Europe.

Because no one wants brain worms or shitty lettuce.

Is this supposed to be facetious? Here in the good ol' US of A, we feed our livestock shit and don't give our pickers bathroom breaks.
elucubra@sopuli.xyz · 0 pts · 14h
Because in Europe they are sub-standard
floofloof@lemmy.ca · 1 pts · 2h
Upvote or downvote? It's not completely clear what you mean by "they". I think you mean American standards are below European standards. In that case, yes.
DigDoug@lemmy.world · 26 pts · 23h
You mean to tell me that adding/removing tariffs multiple times a day every day, and threatening to annex your allies will make said allies choose trade relationships with other countries? Colour me fucking bamboozled.
Arancello@aussie.zone · 25 pts · 13h
well duh. Agreements with the usa are written in pencil. america untrustworthy and deceitful

They will fuck you over the moment they can benefit just a little more from it. Particularly the current administration. What's the point of making a deal when they will walk away from it the next day?
PorradaVFR@lemmy.world · 23 pts · 15h
No shit…maybe consider why
FuglyDuck@lemmy.world · 22 pts · 23h
and why wouldn't they? Trump is a fickle bastard who doesn't keep his promises, and is corrupt as fucking hell.
puppinstuff@lemmy.ca · 20 pts · 23h
If goods made to an American standard measured up to the EU standards there would be no issue. Maybe Greer can answer why the UK should lower the bar instead of the US meeting the bare minimum of quality and safety.

Who in the fuck wouldn't?
tacosanonymous@mander.xyz · 4 pts · 18h
Right? Like I’m going to risk a spin-kick from JCVD?!
Melobol@lemmy.ml · 18 pts · 22h
I do not know why you would want to have closer relationship with basically your neighbors. Within hours, same-ish time zone - and relatively strong regulations.
Vs a temperamental manchild that starts wars on a whim and doesn't even think about keeping promises/agreements.

Good job Britian. It's really the only sane choice.
jobbies@lemmy.zip · 13 pts · 19h
Its a necessity rather than a slight - we are physically closer to EU. And its important for many reasons, not just trade.
Frictionless movement over the Irish land border is a good example. Without EU alignment that would be impossible. I'll bet most of the MAGA roasters have never even heard of the Good Friday Agreement.
