I typically go with single player games. Niche stuff casuals rarely play. It's not a flex or anything, I just a "distinct" taste in gaming

I've had several girlfriends who were like "you play video games? Like... call of duty?"
They were all relieved when I was like no.
Less relieved when I got them to play cuphead co-op.

I'm not a COD guy, I prefer battlefield.
I always included my partners into playing it with me. Either taking turns or, as my partner for life, has come to love. Minimap watcher!
She calls out whatever is on the radar. Saved my ass so many times. I know it has to have made somebody mad, cause there's times when she notices someone on the minimal and tells me turn around or something, and I end up getting em.

That's so sweet!
Salamanderwizard@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 2d
Thank you. It really is. It started in bf1. I am colorblind (can't remember which) but bf1 blended together for me a lot. Made it harder to see folks. She came in clutch more than I can count.
She's the reason I have, I think 3 of the 4 horsemen dog tags.
And she's great overwatch when I am flying heli with my buddy Squash on bf6. She can spot an enemy heli the moment it comes out. Where as I am basically blind because of my sight.
And she's even gotten better at playing herself. Especially since we've worked on our communication skills and I have learned not to be so "harsh" sounding when she messes up a firefight and gets vented. And she's learned that I'm not trying to be mean, but get the point across that you gotta stay calm under fire.
Something I love about her is that she'll admit when she's wrong, even when I am the bigger asshole. She can sit there look me in the eyes and say "how you acted wasn't right, but I can see how I was acting made you act that way."
To be acknowledged, to be seen as human, to be loved even when flawed. I wouldn't trade it for the universe.
I'll never be able to pay this woman back for the love she has given me and the support she has shown me. I'll shutup now, as I could just go on about my partner.

I go to the same barbershop every two month or so, but not always tge same barber. Every now and then i get a guy around my age who is pretty chatty, but we have literally nothing i. Common. So every time he remembers that i play video games, because he also plays video games. But for now a decade or so, his answer is always: fifa and cod and gta, when the new one came out. He has literally no idea what i'm talking about when i name some games i play. "Video games" to him is synonymous for fifa and call of duty. So we still have nothing in common
RustySharp@programming.dev · 20 pts · 2d
Yes, but at least soon he'll have another GTA to discuss with you!
FatVegan@leminal.space · 9 pts · 2d
Can't wait since i won't play it.
HarkMahlberg@kbin.earth · 4 pts · 2d
Depending on how you gauge him, maybe you're his opportunity to discover a vast fun world of indie games? At the very least, if you're tired of him talking your ear off about Ball and Gun, you could at least talk his ear off about Expedition 33. Yapping as a defense mechanism.
creamfresh@lemmy.world · 43 pts · 2d
that's the kind of gatekeeping I'd like to avoid in my hobby
sukhmel@programming.dev · 11 pts · 2d
A lot of that ‘niche’ stuff may also be what ‘casuals’ do play
grrgyle@slrpnk.net · 7 pts · 2d
Yeah like so many of the single dev indie games I've played have been extremely casual—that's why I play them!
creamfresh@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 2d
I don’t think ‚casual‘ refers to the difficulty of the game for OP.
grrgyle@slrpnk.net · 1 pts · 1d
I'm probably into those too tbh
Axolotl_cpp@feddit.it · 8 pts · 2d
I read it more as what the sentence actually says than gatekeeping tbh
Hadriscus@jlai.lu · 28 pts · 2d
I play the wikipedia game. Start on a random article, click the first link over and over until you reach philosophy. How many clicks did it take? try and beat that
amplifiedrabbit@lemmy.today · 5 pts · 2d
This is awesome!
Though in my first attempt I ended up in an infinite loop. To be fair, the 4th link in the last pages of the loop is philosophy George Krugers -> Dutch East Indies -> Dutch Colonial Empire -> Overseas Territories -> International Politics/Relations -> War -> Armed Forces/Military -> Armed/Weapon -> Kill/Death -> Life -> Matter -> Physical Science -> Natural Science -> Science -> Knowledge -> Descriptive/Declarative Knowledge -> Awareness (4th link here is Philosophy , so not quite) -> Back to Knowledge
But it was a fascinating exercise. Yes I am bored and need something to occupy my mind.
Edit: typo
Hadriscus@jlai.lu · 2 pts · 2d
hah yes sometimes the game breaks, you have to restart it
sukhmel@programming.dev · 3 pts · 2d
Maybe you should allow skipping links already visited, then it could (?) converge
Hadriscus@jlai.lu · 4 pts · 2d
that sounds like it would work
eah@programming.dev · 1 pts · 1d
It doesn't work that well anymore.

Well they said "click the first link"
PowerCrazy@lemmy.ml · 3 pts · 2d
Oh I totally missed that. I suspect you'd end up in a lot of circles tbh.
Heh, I found one starting from the featured article of english wikipedia today. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Krugers I clicked on the first link in the article, not on the page, and also skipped the reference links. Took about 8
Hadriscus@jlai.lu · 3 pts · 2d
yeah you do find yourself clicking in circles sometimes

"Yea... Usually not intentionally. I mean no one sets to eat their friends or even their enemies but after a few lean seasons and you have run out of pets... But it's not like you let them go to waste, you can use the leather too.

HarkMahlberg@kbin.earth · 2 pts · 2d
Have you tried EU5 yet? (Also what's your favorite countries to play?)
Shindo66@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1d
I have not tried it yet. My favorite play through is starting with freisland and neing the netherlands. Then i can stop the British empire. Ive beem playing that game since the time it was just europe. I showed my kids the game when they were like 8 and 10 and they didnt get it at all. Then, randomly like a year later they just started playing it with each other and learned it by themselves. Bow the older one is 15 and i cant even remotely compete with him in the game. Luckily, and this is one of the reasons i like the game so much, is its easy to cheat. Right now im playing with the younger one who is 12 and we are native americans. We cheated a little to not be competely destroyed, but its been a blast because its so different, yet the same. Im still paying for 3 subscriptions for eu4 and have for the past 1.5 years...
