It looks like Linux users don't have to miss out on said ad!

Windows 11 is cringe, so it's a perfect match

Yeah, it's like she wanted to avoid the Tolkien fantasy cliches but somehow ended up making it even more cliche and lame.

A lot of people are going to get triggered by this. This is not okay.
More money for J.K. Rowling and her anti trans crusade.

So a web-based wallpaper service hosted an ad?
I'm shocked, shocked I say!
M0oP0o@mander.xyz · 16 pts · 3d
Uhhhh who is doing that and do they need help?
nevetsg@aussie.zone · 8 pts · 2d
Whilst I don't use it. Bing does commission a lot of spectacular nature photos that make beautiful desktop wallpapers.
M0oP0o@mander.xyz · 6 pts · 2d
Stupid sexy bing.
ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca · 5 pts · 3d
Enough that you can use it on Linux

Oh they really need help.
Carighan@piefed.world · 14 pts · 3d
Ah see, your mistake was using Bing. They only said they'll reduce W11 ads, not Bing ads! 🙃
Hamartiogonic@sopuli.xyz · 2 pts · 3d
The total ad volume remains constant if you decrease W11 ads and increase Bing ads to compensate. It’s the law of ad equilibrium. Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.
Carighan@piefed.world · 3 pts · 3d
Adquilibrium must be achieved!

Holy shit, look at that start menu... Just... Why...
FreddiesLantern@leminal.space · 2 pts · 1d
If you have the misfortune of having one of these abominations nearby take a look at the cpu usage in task manager when you click the start menu open. Try it, it's fun.
echo@lemmy.today · 9 pts · 3d
Why the fuck would you set up a bing powered wallpaper?
Microsoft - Stay out, but please come in!
muhyb@programming.dev · 3 pts · 3d
Not exactly related, but if you use Windows without activation you cannot change wallpaper and it stays on Bing rotation. That makes perfect sense now.

And what's the lesson?

I hadn't finished.
It doesn't matter.

Why would you use bing wallpaper?
Zeth@lemmy.world · -1 pts · 3d
I see a lot of comments poopooing people that use this software but offer no alternatives...
SaharaMaleikuhm@feddit.org · 11 pts · 3d
Here's one alternative: linux
CADmonkey@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 3d
Once you install linux mint without having to make an account of any kind you'll wonder why you put up with windows.
FreddiesLantern@leminal.space · 4 pts · 3d
On the fediverse it's pretty much a given that most people use linux over Windows. (Or instead any big tech software realy)
As far as linux goes, pick whatever suits you. Or openbsd, templeOs,... come on get your feet wet already. Windows is boring.
Nefara@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 3d
Try Debian based Linux Mint with the KDE plasma desktop environment. Linux has its issues but they're honest issues. Linux has hiccups because a bunch of volunteers are trying to build an airplane while flying it, while Windows has a bunch of C suite goons purposely creating a hostile user environment to monetize you for every red cent.
Noel_Skum@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 3d
The fediverse is quite… geeky, for want of a better word.
Most people here probably assume it’s a given that we all know the alternatives so wouldn’t feel the need to mention them.
Glurbox@lemmy.zip · -14 pts · 3d
What kind of stupid news is that? No one cares about any of that
stoy@lemmy.zip · 15 pts · 3d
Have you forgotten or perhaps repressed the fact that the vast majority of people using a computer are using Windows 11?
There are a shitload of people who this affects.
Glurbox@lemmy.zip · -13 pts · 3d
Well, that's their problem if they chose to continue to use it. And even while still being on it, there are now many ways, many tool to avoid those kind of scenarii. But hey, people won't try to look for a solution, it's much mote conveninent to complaint than to try to find solutions
stoy@lemmy.zip · 4 pts · 3d
Doesn't change the fact that plenty of people does care about this situation.
Glurbox@lemmy.zip · -1 pts · 3d
Well the whole article is basically complaining about Microsoft for doing their thing.
With all that happened with windows 11 already, everyone knows perfectly well that things are not going to get better overtime, it's only gonna get worse..
I don't get that trend of pointing out each new stupid feature they come up with.
What should we expect, that they are finally going to listen, to do the right thing and start doing an OS for the people?
We know it's garbage, so let's get straight to solutions or alternatives to get around that. These kind of articles serves no purpose.
If people are upset about not being able to control a software like this, maybe it's time for them to wake up, stop being lazy, and adress the problem once and for all with an alternative that is not going to screw them wity spywares, ads, AI slop, pre installed bloatwares, useless features and forced updates bringing with them god knows what new shenanigans..

News flash you're not the center of the world and this article wasn't made for you specifically
Glurbox@lemmy.zip · -5 pts · 3d
Glad i am not the center of the universe, and like you said, this article was not meant for me.
Useless reminder of what was ovious. Thanks.

Yeah, i'm just tired of seeing these kind of headlines popping in my feed
