Companies need to start getting punished for fraudulent takedown notices.

Not a Lawyer.

I'm wondering if a false DMCA notice is a form of slander/libel?

It could be considered a lot of things if there were lawyers willing to test out new legal theories to stop them, however as far as I am aware, nobody has really tried.

Did they send one to Clorox also?

This has to be a joke. They can't be that stupid.

Tanoh@lemmy.world · 32 pts · 2d (2 replies)

Most likely it is just automated and matching text, which should be illegal.

Start fining companies a percentage of their yearly revenue and don't let them pay it over 5-10 years like they recently did for Meta.

They're manga CEO's. Their apps have more trackers than Facebook, and expect people to pay for access. They really are that fucking stupid

I found before that the company that does this apparently is just one person with an AI agent, because they ("Remove Your Media LLC") give a street direction but there's... Only a Walmart.

Maybe they work out of the Walmart? Times are tough. Maybe they work the register as their agent works your register (see what I did there? ᶦ‘ˡˡ ˡᵉᵃᵛᵉ).

hanrahan@slrpnk.net · 1 pts · 1d

Here's their post (the one in the screenshot) https://www.bleachbit.org/anime

Are we allowed to see Biz Media's actual DMCA takedown or are those things typically not shared?

CaptainBasculin@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 7 pts · 2d

The notice at the bottom is the one sent by them, and people that recieve them are allowed to share them publically.

SleeplessCityLights@programming.dev · 4 pts · 1d (2 replies)

Say you let them take you to court and don't bother to show up or get a lawyer, will the default ruling follow the law or the corperation?

Funkt4st1c@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 1d (1 reply)

If only one side makes an argument im pretty sure its just the judges call

SleeplessCityLights@programming.dev · 2 pts · 1d

Yes, a default ruling. Would the judge side with the party that showed up, even if it is clear that it is non-sense.
