Its a Smart Forfour (454). The front seats fold down and so you can fit 2 people in there. But i want to drive mostly alone, well see.

I’ll give you a shiny nickel to snort a line of carpet dust.

If you're going mostly alone, you might consider completely removing the front passenger seat.
That will allow a lower, more permanent bed frame and/or more storage space underneath it. (Passenger footwell is a huge available storage space.)
Also, you need to be considering ventilation. Without modification, moisture from your breath/body will cause condensation inside the car at night. This can eventually lead to mold, corrosion, or electrical issues.
The best solution is a roof fan, but that's a pretty big and permanent step. A good, more temporary solution is to crack a couple of windows and rig some way to put window screens in the gaps so you don't get a lot of bugs.

You can get window screens that fit over a car window for cheap.

A guy I know made his van into a camper with no ventilation , it was moldy quickly and his one kid got super sick from the mold. 😕

I'm jealous; we don't have the 454 in the USA, except as grey market imports. Good luck in this endeavor!

You could get a 454 in a Chevelle SS or Corvette. Pretty sure they put one in a truck in the 90's too. /j

That's fun! I have an old Buick Enclave I was thinking about doing that with, but it turns out I can just stick a memory foam mattress in the back and leave it at that. I can still fit stuff underneath the captains chairs when they are folded down.
It even has a DVD player in the back, so I'm trying to come up with an alternative power situation so I can watch stuff without draining the main battery.

Are you planning on doing anything else to it or just taking the back seat out?
Feddinat0r@feddit.org · 14 pts · 10d
Yeah, next step will be building a bed frame which extends to the front when the seats are folded down and with a little bit space underneath so i can get some stuff under there...
Thats the whole plan

I always had a dream of doing something like this but with popping the front seats out and using them as camping chairs. I'd build some sort of wooden base for them and then cover them with something waterproof. Once out, you'd get s lot of space in the car for sleeping. I did sleep a few times in a RAV4 with putting the rear seats flat and moving the seats all the way forward and building a wooden back seat extender platform. I very much enjoyed camping in it.

You don’t want front seats to be easy to detach.

Just don’t get into an accident. Problem solved

Won’t be very dull if they did much else! /s
I know myself and I won’t even be able to that

Interesting choice for a camper car, but if it works it works.
I've softened up to the old Smart line-up actually; compared to their current models they were pretty cool and quirky little cars. I wouldn't mind driving a Roadster.
Obi@sopuli.xyz · 3 pts · 8d
Fuck yeah that roadster looked so fun, everyone shat on it because it was the cool thing to do but really it looked like great fun.

I did something similar. Took one the the backseats out of my Prius and it's perfect for road trips with just me and my dog. Tinted the windows and just put a sunshade up in the windshield went I sleep

I thought out a similar concept, but the final version was driving to a hotel.
