I was sitting with my mom this past Independence Day and asked her if this one felt different from the bicentennial and she started crying.

Ick. Yeah gas stations are addiction centers. Doesn't help theyre often the only employment in small towns too.

And pay minimum wage.

This one hurt, and I realize how grateful I am for my job, even on Workers' Comp.

Yeah, and its not an easy job.

I worked at one, briefly, because my boss at another job said they could use the help.

Like a parody of posters about building a better future. It calls out some visible suffering but then instead of asking for a donation or something to help the situation, it asks readers to place bets on whether it will be better, the same, or worse in x time. Big smiling face on the bottom with the quote, "I won $235 because I guessed the day one of the homeless locals would die correctly!"

"I won $235 because I guessed the day one of the homeless locals would die correctly!"

Oh my God. That would do so well. Worst part is you'd get people betting on themselves.

Damn, this is real. I was working Dollar General during this 4th and literally every person working there was personally and negatively impacted by Trumpistan but we still had to sell that crap. My boss was pissed (he is a gay man who lost his trans sister to violence associated with MAGA). This wasnt just 250 4th of july shit, it was straight MAGA.

and they would be right.
But no need to do something.
On the contrary, glad to see them go down the shitter.

Squirrelknight@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 22h (1 reply)

Given how many countries the US has victimized, it's at least a little comforting to know they're getting some of it turned back on them.

They had a chance to make things better, unlike so many other countries. They had it good for decades, only to blow it all up for some narcissistic, billionaire pedophile. Fuck em.

Bloomcole@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 39m

The libs were perfectly happy to live in their american bubble of 'democracy' getting the crumbs of the empire's looting and murdering.
As long as it happened far away they could turn a blind eye.

agent_nycto@lemmy.world · -3 pts · 20h (2 replies)

So you're glad to see children in concentration camps? Glad to see LGBT people assaulted? Glad to see people shot in the head for nothing? That's pretty fucked up.

JustPlainDave@lemmy.zip · 2 pts · 56m

Notice how they downvote you, but don't reply? They don't want to think, they just want to hate us.

Bloomcole@lemmy.world · 0 pts · 41m

That's what happened already, only on a lesser scale.
And again, more importantly, it didn't inconvenience the white libs.
I bet you don't know any of the names killed by ICE under many presidents from either side of your uniparty.
But you specifically mention "people shot in the head for nothing".
I know exactly who you mean, those 2 dead white people were the outrage and big news.
So fuck you hypocrite and your selective indignation.

JustPlainDave@lemmy.zip · 3 pts · 57m

And then when you ask them what we should be doing they get mad and call you stupid.

eldavi@lemmy.ml · 2 pts · 1d (14 replies)

makes sense.

how many times have you been told to stop voting for the political duopoloy, but you still kept doing it anyways or -- worse yet -- not bothering to vote at all?

how many times have you been told to start using green tech to mitigate climate change's impact, but just shrugged your shoulders when your gov't effectively banned green tech and maxed out fossil fuels nonetheless -- and did vote for them anyways because the red team was slightly worse than the blue team?

how many times have you been told that your media has chocked fully of propaganda but never bothered to change your media consumption habits while decrying all other media sources as propaganda?

how many times have you been told that it's not a coincidence that all the us empire's political enemies are "authoritarian" hellholes, but you still accept the lies that your propaganda keeps telling you despite the fact your government had already effectively admitted that are lies decades ago?

this i-told-you-so nagging is annoying, but it's the only way to keep people aware that they're choosing this enshitify their own environment, society and future just so that the epstein class can keep their control over us.

eldavi@lemmy.ml · 3 pts · 22h (6 replies)

the only assholery on display here is the presumption that they're powerless and the re-enforced misinformation that you're spreading here.

history proves that the people can be just as powerful as the epstein class — and that's exactly why they expend so many resources keeping you from ever doing what that nagging tells you to do.

eldavi@lemmy.ml · 3 pts · 15h (1 reply)

no one said that the epstein class is not powerful and the fact that the nagging has to exist proves that here is no morality police anywhere.

also, history has already given us the benefit of hindsight to teach us what works and how to unfuck ourselves as a result and both it and the nagging agree with each other on what americans can do as individuals -- right now -- to start effecting change.

Cool story bro, and way to miss the point.

please consider going back to reddit -- it's clear that you'll be much happier there since you fit in so well with them.

reddit's the right place for them -- lots of like-minded people there and on facebook and dallas rn. lol

WraithGear@lemmy.world · -1 pts · 1d (5 replies)

doing all these things on a personal level also didn’t do much to help as far as i can see. i get conflicting propaganda now, and can maybe see accidental glimpses of the truth more often, woohoo. and i pay more for the privilege, but as lest i actualy have the financial mobility to make that choice. makes the nagging much more shrill.

eldavi@lemmy.ml · 2 pts · 23h (4 replies)

the epstein class has been forced to reveal several times that collectivism is the only threat to them and all of this nagging directly points out to how the epsteins prevent collectivization from happening on an individual scale.

WraithGear@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 22h (3 replies)

and nagging and othering people promotes collectivism how exactly?

eldavi@lemmy.ml · 1 pts · 22h (2 replies)

the nagging points to the things that you -- as an individual -- can do to ruin the epstein class' day.

and collectivism will make you understand why & how doing it will ruin their day so that you can take it a step further than just ruining their day.

WraithGear@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 20h (1 reply)

and i have done these things, and i see no difference.

you push for individual culpability through othering and alienation to force collectivism, absurdity on nonsense.

just the notion alone that in order to achieve collectivism one must alone shoulder the burden of systematic change separately is oxymoronic and a waste of time.

do you just assume that people don’t do as you say because they are inherently evil? they actually seek their end?

all this nagging does’nt seem to be convincing me to agree with you after all

eldavi@lemmy.ml · 1 pts · 16h

The nagging is the bare bones minimum that we could do and, as such, it has little impact by itself. (but could if everybody did it).

Couple it something like protesting like Americans used to do during the civil rights era -- ie the opposite of no kings rallies -- and you get the same winning combination that Mexico had in 2017 -- which lead them to permanently breaking up their own political duopoly and giving them president Sheinbaum.

I'm not a fan of the nagging partially because it's a last ditch effort but I can appreciate that's the only step you can take to get people to do what morality, responsibility, and basic human deceny requires them to do.

The other reason I don't like nagging is because it's clear by that point that you will not be convinced by reason or logic. Instead, history proves that nature has a way of forcing things and either climate change or catastrophic economic bubble is going to do a better -- and significantly more painful -- job than the nagging ever will do.

What's EBT?

CodeBlooded@programming.dev · 12 pts · 1d (1 reply)

Electronic benefit transfer is an electronic system used in the United States that allows state welfare departments to issue benefits via a magnetically encoded payment card.

I don't like that this is ai slop... Or is it ironic that it is ai slop?

yogthos@lemmy.ml · 27 pts · 1d (3 replies)

I love how deranged some people are at this point that they see everything as AI generated, this clearly isn't, and you can drop it here if you don't believe me to check https://sightengine.com/detect-ai-generated-images

eepydeeby@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 6 pts · 1d

Its less derangement and more hypervigilance because theres no real disclosure etiquette. There are nicer ways to check an OP for it than that tho...

I'm a visual artist with a sharp eye for AI who inspects every image anymore, and will vouch: the human giveaways for this being real are the consistency of repeated elements (cigarettes, flags), clarity of text (written consistently, makes sense even when cut off or at odd angles), and sensible variation in detail (it is unimportant to flesh out hundreds of packs of cigs bc most viewers have the cultural shorthand for it, it is important to render the counter mat that seems to list food offerings or advertisements.)

Hopefully this can help sharpen the next guys AI detection so OP doesnt catch any more undue strays 🫣
