I see a lot of posts from them, and now from This is Not Funhole. They seem to have a particular theme, or style, but the description isn't very descriptive. What are these communities?

Apparently sdf.org is an ancient (1987!!) unix community server. I would guess they took their established community and in-jokes and stuff and brought some of it over to lemmy
They have a kind of (collaborative?) comic thing that kind of reminds me of SCP but it's a cyberpunk corpo dystopia with a very distinctive art style

MATA is the BigCorp standin, mobilek is the cell phone model
SlurpingPus@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 6h
I thought for sure ‘mobilek’ just means a cellphone in some language's slang, but surprisingly a brief search doesn't bring anything up in this vein.

The simplest (and also best imo) story thread is Child of 9 (
kill -9kills any process instantly on the terminal, so child of 9 = child of death) fighting MATAcorpdefaultusername@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 5 pts · 13h

Yes wiki/SDF_Public_Access_Unix_System!
Folks can also check out analognowhere.com for fun content, they have a wiki there too with extra info.
Also mobilek is just a mega/matacorp window basically, just like the matabots.

It's the now former name of Lego-competitor Lumibricks (and at superior to Lego if you ask me).

I think they're spelled with an additional "w". But I agree, they're superior to Lego.
