Youtube for some reason started pushing roast shorts to me. 90% of it just racist shit with an uncomfortable audience laughing. I hope they take me off that reel at some point, as they've removed the downvote button
That shit does absolutely fucking nothing. I don't know how many time's I've clicked either of those and had it continue to suggest the same channel or even the same video.
I use these quite regularly and they've always worked just fine for me.
'Don't recommend channel' in particular has pretty consistently removed channels from my recommended list... (As long as I refresh the page afterwards)
My wife has been showing me TikTok videos of black guys asking things like, "guess what I do for work," and the responses are every bit as racist as you'd expect.
She thinks it's everyone making fun of racists and black people owning the jokes, but to me it looks like attempts to normalize overt racism.
Yep. I keep seeing videos of some british guy going around asking international students / workers, "what's a word that you find hard to pronounce", and initially it's played off as cute, but after the fifth person, it's clear that he's doing it to mock them as he's pretty strong in how he corrects them....
there is a narrative to normalize this kind of "us first" behaviour...
It's a brilliant analysis of the state of comedy and that it's now basically a tool for billionaires to uphold and propagate their agenda / world view and using Joe Rogan and his comedy space ship and podcast and circle as the vehicle
That, I think, demonstrates the duality of roasting. You have to go for the obvious, the low hanging fruit but do it in a way that brings something else than just: duh-huh black, duh-huh gay, duh-huh ugly etc
The only roaster I’ve watched purely for his roasts is Greg Giraldo - a now dead, ex lawyer, drug addict who only got into comedy because he thought he could do better than what he was going out to watch.

You curate your YouTube algorithm by revising your watch history. Delete the initial roast videos you watched and it shouldn't recommend then anymore
