How about Appalachia?

They gave up the lifeways of their homelands in exchange for a kind of security, and thus for their great grandchildren to be run over by a Ford F250 in a Bucee's parking lot.
But that doesn't mean these places are without rich, deep, and important cultures. The United States is a prisonhouse of nations. Oklahoma, alone, is where we shoved a significant portion of this continents indigenous people. You're conveniently forgetting that the 38th parallel was an arbitrary border drawn by some white guys on a map, and that Korea was, albeit incredibly briefly, a unified Socialist state in 1945, prior to the externally imposed partition of the peninsula.
Further, while the north did cross the 38th parallel, border skirmishes went on before that point, and who truly "started" the war is murky.
