I couldn't agree more. The fact that it isn't preventing selective enforcement of the law tells me we're way past legal precedence being relevant (and well into societal collapse).
I think the inconsistency is the point. It'll be based on how much money you have. So individuals will always be in the wrong, companies can legally steal from artists, and megacorps can legally use whatever they like. But smaller corps can't steal from megacorps, so AI models will always be safe.
I really dislike the China/Russia glazing tankies here, but saying anyone can beat us is a baffling claim. Our war crimes abroad could rival every other country put together.
Even if you're just talking domestically that's a bold claim. For every Tiananmen massacre we've got a few Tulsa Race Massacres to pick from. For every Uyghur Genocide we've got a few Trail of Tears.
If you're limiting it to just domestically and recently our unconstitutional CIA programs on US citizens, private prison collusion with judges, and escalating ICE detentions could easily match the oppression of Hong Kong, Tibet, etc.
That's not to minimize the suffering China causes, but acting like we haven't spent 250 years perfecting the game is crazy to me. Have some shame like the rest of us.
Wasn't the big complaint against Star Trek: Section 31 was that people didn't want to watch Corrupt Space CIA? And don't people enjoy SNW and Lower Decks because they embrace the lighter side of Trek?
Honestly I think most Trek movies have tried to get dark and it never lands for me.

The idea of writing is pretty great, though.
I thought hauling a kid around in a bike trailer was a workout. This would be a real challenge on the hills, but at least cars wouldn't buzz me.
I can tell this person has never visited the US! Tax dollars are for enriching those in power, not for injecting back into the community.
