FWIW we've been seeing that amount be advertised for months. So either people talking about the fact that "the war having cost $40bn so far" were wrong months ago, or this number is under-evaluated for political reasons. Or both.

My personal take is: don't silently cancel your donations in hope of change. You have much more influence power if you publicly threaten to cancel your donation, especially if you already are a recurring donor. Make yourself heard, on wiki. These protest pages are being read.

I have a "mental health break" line in my resume for a 4 month hiatus. I don't know if it's a flex or not, but it's honest about what it is. At some point, a potential employer asked about it with some stern reservation, which allowed me to avoid a toxic workplace culture. Win win.

The Wikimedia Foundation does just that, and still, their infrastructure is under stress because of AI scrapers.

Dumps or no dumps, these AI companies don't care. They feel like they're entitled to taking or stealing what they want.
