Some MAGA supporters who paid for Donald Trump watches are seriously ticked off. The majority of reviews for GetTrumpWatches on Trustpilot give the company just one star, with some people complaining that it is a “scam.”
The timepieces are made by TheBestWatchesonEarth LLC and range from $499 to $2,999 per watch, or $5,389 for the “Ultra Mega Collector Set.” The president has been criticized for hawking them on cable TV as a government shutdown drags on over healthcare funding.
On Jan. 8 Lemme be Frank, from Switzerland—a country famed for its watches—wrote, “Absolutely horrible customer service. Do not buy any of these garbage products. Avoid like the plague!!”

This is the closest that recipient will get to a direct interaction with Trump. The only thing that could make it a more accurate analog would be their daughters getting sexually assaulted/harassed, and then called a liar who isn't attractive enough to get sexually assaulted.

Not super important but just to say, Rolex is far more expensive than these. The most expensive option for the Trump watch is still cheaper than the cheapest model of Rolex. And that’s assuming you can even buy it at retail value, which is impossible in most places. Most jewelry stores won’t sell you a Rolex unless you have purchase history with them, and as such used prices are often way higher than brand new.
Vintage is a different story, some cheaper vintage Rolexes can go for under 5k (and some rare ones can be exponentially more expensive too), but if we’re talking new, they’re all more expensive than these Trump watches.
Ougie@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 314d
There's a Trump tourbillon version going for 100k. Sold out btw
BurntWits@sh.itjust.works · 4 pts · 314d
I mean, at least it has an expensive complication that somewhat justifies its price? Not that a tourbillon is worth 100k but it is still a very expensive complication. I wouldn’t put it past these guys to sell a quartz watch for 100k.
Ougie@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 314d
Fair enough, for sure a tourbillon watch will be more expensive, but 100k? I'm not into watches that much, how much is a good tourbillon these days? Not that this could ever be good, in fact I bet it doesn't even exist irl.
BurntWits@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 314d
You can get a used Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Tourbillon for around 30k at the low end I think. Not saying JLC is the cheapest on the market (it’s definitely not) but they’re excellent watches without being too bloated in price for what you get. I’m sure brand new is a bit more expensive but if you can get a JLC for a third of the price, that’s saying something.

It's not even uniquely American, it's the same right wing, nationalistic, authoritarian, traditional rhetoric used as everywhere else, it's just more religious believing countries like the US tend to be more susceptible to this type of ideology rhetoric because it usually uses the same language and feelings as religious belief.
Compare a maga politician's speech with a conservative preacher's sermon, the phrases and words and lack of justification through evidence. Faith, specifically Christian defined faith as belief without evidence, is negligent thinking those beliefs are justified knowledge and while many people can participate in religions without becoming extremists, it also leads to extremist cults stuff like David koresh, maga, Jim Jones, etc. it is also being worsened by the more liberal, less fundamentalist believers leaving churches or splitting to a different church like the recent Methodists schism.
Don't believe fairy tales or sermons or stories about money.
