Check the second hand options. I bought a brand new Pixel 10 Pro at the beginning of the year for 600€ from the second hand market from a guy who got it with his contract renewal for free. I think back then the regular Pixel was costing 500€, so I can imagine that you can find a Pixel 9 for 300-350€ in a very good condition.

Thanks for the detailed feedback. I think I am also leaning towards Opnsense right now. I think for a relative newbie like me, that would be better.

I know that I can build and host everything on my own on a pure Linux distro, but I would like to have some life left at the end of the day and not spend days of building testing and debugging network related problems.

By the way another user suggested that with VyOS you can build an LTS target yourself and that they provide build instructions.

Halving the population would definitely help, but some country populations have a lot lower impact than others.

The real problem is the consumerism mentality, where we need to buy even bigger cars, TVs, houses, clothes, etc.

This is what destroys our planet. And even if the population halves, this trend can negate much of the effect.

Yes, this makes us even more ignorant. At some point in the past I was kind of hopeful we as united humanity can overcome this problem, like with the ozone layer hole, but then these individualistic policies started to sweep over the world and people started to care about other problems more.

To be honest DRAM was dirt cheap for quite a while and the profit margins of those companies were razor thin. Only recently they saw a surge in demand and they are exploiting it to enrich themselves but also increasing the manufacturing capacity is a lengthy and costly process which I presume some of those companies are actively trying to delay, in order to preserve their fat profit margins now.

Competition is good though and hopefully will lower the price overall faster.

Unfortunately the problem with global warming is that it happens very slowly over time. Scientists were warning us of the impacts of global warming for at least a decade but we have somehow prioritized the short term gains and now we and our children will bear the fruits of our negligence.
