Yeah, weekly backup to B2 or similar should be fine. Postponed setting it up myself - I paid for a year of Ente and currently sync everything both to premium Ente and my local Immich, so backup is fine for now.
For the heat: I am running it on a Pi4 with 8GB RAM and it runs pretty decently even without cooling. For the large import, I set up only the ML-container on a more potent desktop (still fiddling with GPU HW-acceleration) and added it as remote ML to Immich, so I can offload heavy ML load when e.g. importing many files.
The normal upload stream is fine with the local ML, though
Are they? I have not checked their posts in depth. The ones I have seen in my feed were along the lines of "lol, Linux users do not shower / don't get women" or "if Linux good, why not used in Business" (what is a wild thing to say, considering... Well Servers), so that's the baseline I've had in my mind
Sometimes when seeing Linux Memes like this, I think whether this one user with their 1-man-linux-hating-community simply blocked all these communities or reads them as some sort of rage-fuel.
Costs? In most hotels, doing laundry is really expensive per piece. In some apartments having a washing machine, you have to pay per load and sometimes the washer/energy, too.
So, packing for a few days extra mostly is just question of cost vs. comfort?
But yeah, asked myself the same question packing a big suitcase for the last vacation...
Either try a power nap or eat/drink whatever your body seems to miss today.
Sometimes, I reckon I'll just need to get some light sports or general activity outside going.
But most of the times? Nothing works and I kinda just accept that's it's a slow day. So do what must be done today, try to do something comfy/fun for the remainder and get at least something enjoyable out of this day.
I am pleased to tell you that I have successfully hurt my finger by accidentally grabbing a children's fork too fast (and miscalculated it's length). It hurt and bled.
I'm sure I could do the same with a spoon of I tried hard enough (:

Love that reply. Father of a friend paves every green spot in his property with stone floorings step by step for years now and sprays ant poison everywhere. He's really really pissed about them ants minding their own business (like... just normal ants, not even fire ants or smth).
My response is always a "the fucking audacity of those ants. Building their colony just right there in the ground outside! Don't they know this is your property?!"

Having such a setup for travel and emergencies is a cool idea, I'll have to put it onto my "possibly some day" list :)

Bin bisher auch noch nicht 100% auf den Workflow eingeschossen:
MakeACopy macht ganz gutes OCR auf dem Handy, die Scans sind aber oft etwas wackelig.
FairScan macht sehr gute PDFs, aber kein OCR
Ich habe einen Scanner, der natürlich bei 600DPI nahezu perfekte Kopien macht, die ich auf dem PC per Shell in Sekunden durch OcrMyPDF jagen kann für extrem gute Ergebnisse. Aber>5 Seiten per Hand auf dem Scannerbett... das ist dann schon nervig
Yeah, I've read about using a Wyse 5070 for this a lot by now. Maybe I'll explicitly search for them instead. All I've seen around me are 4gb models, however. The Stack I'm currently running blocks 3.7gb in idle... So that's not enough
Did you just turn off all transcoding or pre-transcoded to 720p mp4 (or similar)?
Or did you just rely on the native apps for direct play?
Paperless, I guess OCR is very taxing, but I mainly had RAM problems regarding this on my Pi 3, with only one doc at a time, it went slow but steady.
Immich maxed out my i5 (all cores on 100) for some minutes when running the ML on my imported test library of ca. 3k Files. So yeah, when choosing the Pi4, I'd go with ente for sure!
