So stun gun gloves. That's absolutely a weapon aimed at intimidation and "punishment" plain and simple. Stun guns aren't tasers and can't incapacitate someone in the same way. So they intend to use these on unarmed people. Even the most bastard cops know that stun guns make no sense for police.
So these gloves are super fucked and really exactly what a fascist force would like to use on people, but honestly it's so blatant this is going nowhere. The first time these were used a judge would rip ICE a new one. I'll bet everyone forgets about this pretty fast and the gloves never happen.
This is one of those places I understand wanting what my parents had, but I don't think that's actually what we need. We need homes to be cheaper, but I also believe homes being appreciating assets is not sustainabe. Moving past car dependence will require building at densities where homes don't carry enough land to naturally appreciate.
It feels like sometimes we fail to comnunicate that while climate models are extremely rigorous and meticulously put together, there's always the possibility of unknown factors.
I appreciate scientists aversion to alarmism, and the difficulty of balancing effective communication on the topic. But if we're honest our species has been dicking around with the most complex system we know of. Even if we start doing everything right there are certainly any number of surprises lurking that we will need to deal with. And to some degree guessing at the scope of the unknown is impossible.
Can someone tell me I'm wrong and somehow we know where all the environmental landmines are? Cause I want to believe that the "this much inventment and change equals this much less warming" can be relied upon, but I worry it's tempering the apparent scale of the crisis.
My local government had funds offered by a federal grant they didn't apply for. A neighboring county had applied for the federal grant, received a ton of money, and was dishing it out to police across the region.
While stargazing a few weeks ago I was surprised how many sneaky starlinks popped up, but also how much their brightness varied. Some were so apparently dim I questioned if I was actually seeing them or imagining streaks similar to the others I'd seen.
I was out there long enough they all seemed to go away. Was kinda fun to realize the sun was far enough under the horizon they couldn't reflect sunlight to me.
But yeah, fuck polluting space just because nobody's there to stop you.

Superman was a really fun movie, but it felt pretty obvious it's gonna be mostly downhill from here. But I'm totally fine with that, I don't want another franchise that tries to make me constantly watch just so I can keep up. Maybe they'll hit on another winner, but I'm not holding my breath. And in this case I'd definitely say the actress was robbed. The story, pacing, and general feel of the movie were where it fell flat for me.
Look forward to following this but unfortunately I doubt the outcome will introduce any new precedent around duress passwords. There's enough nuance here the guy might beat the charges. But in a straight case of being required by a judge to provide your password, giving a duress password would almost certainly be destruction of evidence.
Security on android ereaders is definitely disappointing. My Boox palma 2 only supports pins, not passwords. And unfortunately I don't think a pure eink would work for me. The xteink has me curious if you could make firmware to "leech" off grapheneOS' security by doing something like an SMB share to avoid having potentially pirated books unencrypted.
What I'd personally love to see is an X4 sized device with NFC, wireless charging, and Lora for meshtastic.

Looks like GrapheneOS remains clearly "installed" but requires you to use recovery to factory reset before it can boot.
They didn't exactly ban AI code, they banned AI slop projects that were eating resources senselessly.
