As someone who kept their money possibly buried in various hidden locations up until some time in the past. What am I missing out on by using a bank now instead of a credit union?
One of the best jobs I ever had was night shift stocker at a grocery store. I'd clock in as the store was closing and would clock out about an hour after it opened. I'd get stoned out of my mind, listen to music or audio books the whole time and restock cereal and stuff.
My job now is pretty cushy now, but I do reminisce when I didn't have to think about work during off hours.
That I grew up homeless, got hooked on pills and then started breaking into houses and commited to a life of crime. I have multiple home invasion, assault, and firearm trafficking charges on my sheet, along with plenty of other stuff.
Nowadays I'm a software developer with a small farm that I spend most of my time working on. I'm quiet, don't go out much and just spend my time in nature with my family. I also volunteer at food drives and donate a good chunk of what I grow. I try to give back and improve the community as much as I can. People seem to consider me a good person now and I've been called Mr Rogers a handful of times in the past few years.
It doesn't come up often and I don't advertise it but it does unfortunately come up here and there. I only got my shit together 6 years ago when I got sober and just this year got off probation.
I have kids and absolutely love it. In fact there's not much that my kids haven't made better. Of course there's day where I wanna smash my head against a brick, but most days are wonderful.
I've never heard someone say they don't want kids and thought really anything of it. If someone doesn't want kids that's nobodies business but their own and I think for most people it makes sense to not. They're a lot of responsibility, they cost a lot of money, and take up all your time. It just so happens that if I had no responsibilities, nothing but free time and more money I'd be shooting up and sleeping in a ditch somewhere.
I'm lucky enough to have a job that pays well where I work from home and don't have to stick to a schedule so my little farm doesn't have to provide any real monetary value and just gives us decent food stability and good will with neighbors.
We just moved here last year so were still getting set up, but so far we have a dozen pear and apple trees, tomatoes, too much zucchini, an assortment of peppers, eggplant, bush beans, 1/8th of an acre of potatoes and a 1/4 acre of pumpkin and squash. Once the squash bed is done I'll fill it with onions and garlic to overwinter. We also have a nice little flock of quail for eggs.
If we had more room I would love to expand everything, plant a lot more fruit bushes and trees, get some ducks and chickens, maybe a couple goats and a donkey
I've lost my wallet and had someone return it with all the cash gone, and I've done the same with a wallet I found. Call it a finders fee.
The fact that they returned it cards in tact show that they're at least somewhat of a decent person. Would've been easier to take the cash and throw the rest in the trash. Credit card fraud is a whole different crime.
I was thankful to not have to go to the DMV for a new ID and call the bank for new cards (although I probably should've anyway), the cash was lost anyway.
I recently got a watch that monitors my heart rate and can also do alarms, it just vibrate, but the buttons are small and the screen is finicky so I have to really focus to press snooze or end. Then I have an alarm on my phone that starts vibrating a minute later and its been working great to wake me up.
Unfortunately I can't do any sort of sound because it'll wake up the whole house, then we're all having a bad morning.
We have a flock of quail and about 1/4 of land being used for vegetables along with a couple dozen fruit trees and bushes. We have a lot of seedlings that are popping up so making sure they don't dry out has kept me pretty busy lately.
We have a big renovation of an old barn coming up in a few weeks. There's a couple structural beams that need replacing and reinforcement, a wall is leaning, and the whole roof needs to be replaced. Aside from that I want to turn the far side of the barn into a more finished temperature controlled area and section off part of it to be an indoor coop for the quail for when we get crazy weather like -10 degree weather, 110 degree weather or 300 AQI.
I worked on a farm as a kid, I was a framing carpenter from 16-20 and I loved all of it. Now I do computer stuff and it pays well, the farming and carpentry is what keeps me happy. Although people will often tell me to take a break and do something for myself which is funny.
I was in such a good spot for this year. My 1 year old son had to have a life saving surgery in march which left us with a $36,000 bill to be paid, but also meant we hit out deductible and out of pocket max so everything for the rest of the year was free. I finally booked an appointment with a new cardiologist (we moved and I haven't been in 2 years even though I'm supposed to go every 6 months), a new GP, I was ready to book a therapist and all the other little health things I just can't afford but should do. About a week before my first appointment with the new cardiologist I went to pick up my refill for my heart medication and my insurance wasn't working so I had to pay $120 for it since they were closing soon and I was already out. When I got home I checked and my insurance was terminated. Turns out my company switched insurance providers and sent the cards to my old address so I had no clue.
Hopefully my heart will be fine for a few more years. Thank god my old cardiologist is still filling my script.
I have a coworker who went full AI, and I think is actually losing it, like sees them as people. He was telling me he's been asking chatgpt for relationship advice and how I should use it to get advice on my relationships (my wife and I are fine because I prefer talking to her than the robots).
On Friday he was spamming me with "issues" that codex found with my PR. I think he sent over 20 bulletpoints. 1 of them was a small bug that would only apply in a way far out edge case but good to fix. The rest was absolute nonsense, or evidently not an issue if a huge read it and thought about the context.
I ignored him all day, but still had to take the time to read and verify everything. At 4pm he sends me a message asking me to fix the bugs or he can have codex fix them. I told him they were nonsense and not applicable, explained each one in simple terms, then 20 minutes later I got a message "codex said there's still these issue: <the same fucking list that he evidently didn't read>".
This has been going in for a while. I spend half my week fixing his AI slop that he genuinely thinks is gold. I swear 4 months ago he was a very solid developer, today I wouldn't trust him to write an HTML page.

They're owned by T-Mobile but interestingly while I was paying $15/m for mint and my wife was paying $90/m for T-Mobile I often got better reception, especially when we were somewhere spotty like up a mountain. I assumed it was just a difference in phones, but since she switched to mint she says she gets better reception. Completely anecdotal but interesting.
I actually do love patching! But at a certain point my pants were more patch than jeans. I ended up going with a pair of jeans and overalls from Duluth. The jeans have held up nice but I do most of my heavy work in the overalls and they've help up great so far, and I've not been gentle with them.

Pay off my wife's student loans which run us like $900/m. With the ~10k left over split it into some HYSA for my kids and my sister.
The extra $900/m would go towards the principal on our mortgage and maybe we could actually pay it off before I die.

I'm awful at waking up, absolute dog shit.
