IDK if it's a thing elsewhere but it's been a running joke on Reddit and Lemmy for years mostly because Arch was the more popular, bare bones distro, i.e. you had to set it up yourself without a guided installer like Mint or Ubuntu, so was used as a signal to be like "I know what I'm talking about".

I switched to Zed from VSCode maybe around 2 years ago and havent looked back.

It's open source with GPL3 license and has plenty of languages supported via LSP.

If you need AI support they have this natively via the Agents panel and you can also use terminal agents in there BUT if you don't you can just hide the agents panel and never connect to any account and you never really see any of the AI features. This is essentially what I do for private work where I don't use AI, and for my job where we are soft-forced to adopt.

Super easy to port over your settings.json from VScode with all your shortcuts etc already.

I just assume that everyone arguing over distros has been using Linux for less than 3 years. If you're an experienced user you're just happy more people joined the cult community.

Yeah I hear you - I am generalizing for a gag. I have seen these are typical traits in Bengal crosses of which many are orange and very affectionate, but on their own terms. I love the cat census BTW very sweet.

  • Disappears for days on end?
  • Is only affectionate to one human?
  • Loves face scratches?

Of course it's an orange kitty.

Oh yeah I forgot about those, I think I actually disabled the snap service, or maybe I have a couple of things via snap but only small gui utilities. I use apt and dpkg for everything else, but it was annoying that they made Firefox snap only since 22.04 unless you add the extra apt repository. Easy enough to work around it and move on though.

Fuck snaps.

I love a boring OS that just works for 90% of things and you just live with whatever the other 10% is - usually some driver quirks or peripheral funk.

I've never used the gui for upgrade but I also have a hard time remembering do-make-release.

When I have even the smallest bit of time and headspace to dedicate to it, I will switch back to Debian as it was always my favourite but really can't deal with it at the moment.
