I'm actually using the USB Hub on my LG Monitor like that (with my Laptop connected to the USB-C) and recently thought "it would have been practical if it had an Ethernet port" now I'm quite happy it doesn't. Thinking they could just be running a simple embedded Linux to show ads and forwarding the Ethernet connecting that would be sneaky ... (Tough I would wonder about an additional Device on my Network)
Back un 2016 I built my first proper Gaming PC upgraded over time, running Linux since the beginning.
Since I got my Steam Deck I've barely played on the Desktop. This little device is simply amazing.
I have been using Arch since ~2013 back when I still had time to mess around with it and learn the ins and outs, these days I work as a sysadmin so I want my systems at home to mostly "just work", however Arch also is that Distro for me for the most part. Most of the times I actually encountered breaking changes it was because of my process not breeing quite refined. For example I didn't regularly update my config files, so when there were changes in the PAM config syntax my login was borked, so now I check for .pacnew files on every update and sometimes I have to move over some changes.
I also don't update as often but just when I have a few minutes while I'm using my machines.
So in short I consider Arch to be a valid option for a Stable Desktop OS (if you take some precautions and don't mess with it too much).
However for servers etc. I do usually go with Debian because the packages are usually simply a bit more matured and I do major version updates as you described (explicitly setting aside some time to possibly fix arising issues).
I've had that Laptop and ran Arch (and other distros) on it with those working no issue.
I've since passed it to a friend who also uses it with Debian and hasn't complained about issues.
Are you certain this is a Software issue? Are the TrackPoint and buttons actually plugged in? Do they show up?

While I agree on some level that it might be easier and quicker to find out by simply putting it into a search engine I don't want to deny the human aspect here. At the end of the day social media (and even reddit/lemmy ...) is not "knowledge transfer" its about the interaction between humans. So if someone is faced with something new, especially in a thread where it seems to be a given that people know what it is, it makes sense to use that space to ask what it is everyone is discussing. And while a search might yield a generic result (maybe even a better worded explanation) a good faithed commenter might, in the given exampl, enot just explain what Linux is, but also why is relevant to the bigger discussion and also the commenter that orignally asked would have a way to ask further questions that might lead to a deeper understanding of the topic eve it if isn't as efficient.
Tl;dr: Don't just RTFM or LMGTFY someone. Take a minute to explain and welcome people into the lucky 10000
I was on the fence when it was first announced (just because i had heard the reports about steam machines back in the day) but when I found out you could open it up and upgrade the storage yourself I decided to bite the bullet.
I have never regretted the purchase. I immediately stopped gaming on my (Linux) desktop and have been gaming on the Steamdeck now (almost) exclusively for the past like 3 years. I've upgraded the storage (64GB to 512GB) and replaced the thumbsticks when the old ones fell apart.
It heavily depends in your usecase but if you want to use gpg to encrypt emails and dont want to do it all in the terminal i really recommend using Thunderbird it integrates gpg very well and makes it mostly seamless.
Other than that afaik Kleopatra is the only standalone GUI for gpg simply because most of the time gpg is integrated in workflows (simply using the cli interface vor gpg libraries) and plain gpg for simple tex/file encryption/signing is just not a usecase.many people have
On the other hand we asked an LLM last week how many full time employees it would take to manage everything we're doing and the result was 6-8. We currently have more like 2.5 with 1.5 coming. So at least AI believes we need more rather than less employees.
Don't want to be annoying but I'm generally curious what system you have tunning of a Windows install (also what base i.e. Server/Windows 10...) It is.
Because I don't think I have ssen many selfhosters using windows as there hosting OS

I'm a Sysadmin currently working in client support I don't think ai will drive around town and fix laptops for the clients bit if it ever does AI still needs servers to run on.

The 13 (amd) can charge from either side not sure if the ports closer to the keyboard also charge at the same speed
