It will be fun without CDC, vaccines, etc

Telorand@reddthat.com · 31 pts · 1y

It will be especially fun when people refuse to even mask up and say "plandemic" unironically. The conspiracy theorists are already laying the groundwork for that narrative.

Remember when Trump said COVID would go down if we stopped testing? He's determined to prove he's right with Bird Flu.

Pandemics and Trump go together like peanut butter and jelly.

Drain the swamp one way or another.

The elites will probably vaccinate, but their followers never will - it will become the official purity test of MAGA

I was literally just thinking that.

If we get ANOTHER pandemic after putting absolutely no effort in improving world healthcare... God that'd be so depressing.

Rapidcreek@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1y (1 reply)

Viruses have been around since humans and will continue to be. We can improve our observation of them by getting close to their origin so we can prepare for them. Viruses can orginate anywhere, including the US. China, with its huge population is an exceptional breeding ground.

dukeofdummies@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1y

I mean, yeah, but we aren't doing much to prepare. With covid we had mask shortages, ventilator shortages, with a for profit Healthcare system the incentives to have more than you need are low. Even now a hurricane has given us an IV fluid shortage because it's all built in one place.

I know we're paying attention to emerging viruses but when it finally happens are we just gonna watch a train wreck in slow motion? You think this doge committee is going to maintain that?

How come nobody wanted to talk about that during the election? What did we learn from covid and how should we react next time?

You'd have thunk the Born Agains would've made the connection between voting for Trump and being smitten by God with plague at this point, right?

thefartographer@lemm.ee · 6 pts · 1y (1 reply)

being smitten by God

Jesus must really love you

shoulderoforion@fedia.io · 5 pts · 1y

suffering and death, it seems, is the only way god shows his love, but sometimes, he really leans into it

Is it communicable to other humans?

Human to human transfer has been observed

This is directly contradictory to the current CDC statements on the matter, updated today December 18:

"No person-to-person spread of H5 bird flu has been detected."

chuckleslord@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 1y

That isn't observed human to human transmission. That's a "mutation favorable for human transmission" observed in a case without a clear animal source. Those are two very different things. Good lord, scared me for no reason.

A severed human head case of bird flu sounds pretty bad. That's not the title or anything, I just auto corrected in my brain.
