OSM is a wonderful project and something I support.

Help out by mapping your local area with the StreetComplete app. It's like PokemonGo, but actually helpful.

Damn. Wish there was an iOS version.

They are working on it

Thanks. Downloaded and will give it a go.

As a side note, some of you may be interested in the EU Funding & Tenders Portal, where such projects like the Fediversity receive grants.

So will they add public transit directions? That's the main reason why I still use Google Maps.

Hupf@feddit.org · 5 pts · 1y

The public transit routes are there, but not the timetables. To my understanding, those wouldn't be a good fit with OSM's goals / being a geo information system. Basically third party client apps will have to combine that kind of info from different sources.

Check out https://docs.opentripplanner.org/en/latest/Deployments/ für example

So, like, one person paid for over two years?

Melchior@feddit.org · 32 pts · 1y

This years budget of the foundation is GBP 651.900,00. So this will help them a lot.

That increases their budget by 50%

huppakee@lemm.ee · 3 pts · 1y

For two years (not complaining, just adding info)

More like a LOT of services for an open project

tal@lemmy.today · 13 pts · 1y

I don't think that the goal is for Germany to fund the entire project, but it helps. Other parties can also chip in.

I don't think OSM is paying coastal US corporate salaries lol

I'm sure if we all dunk on it they'll start to give more.
