I have a great idea for a name, too. They can call them Guard Emplacements Suppressing Tyranny And Protecting Order.
thefluffiest@feddit.nl · 24 pts · 340d
The Gestapo was the secret police. Hitlers private paramilitary organization was the SA and later the SS. So this development is more like setting up the SS. Especially if you then fold in ICE to run the camps.

Ok then. This sounds exactly like the stuff all you Second Amendment aficionados have been warning about my entire life. I assume that youâre all prepping, and gearing up to take out these federal goons when they show up in your town. Right? I mean, if this isnât it, then youâve just been cosplaying that âdonât tread on meâ bravado this whole time. Time to put up.
hansolo@lemmy.today · 34 pts · 340d
They'll never think about it like that. Even though Ruby Ridge happened under Bush 41, the Weavers are all insane about Democrats. Even though most of them would suggest 9/11 was an Inside Job to pass the Patriot Act, under Bush 43, it was all Obama to blame for anything bad. Even though Trump banned bump stocks, it's the Dems that love gun control (which they rarely ever actually pass). Even though James Brady was Reagan's press secretary, the Brady Bill passed under Clinton right after Waco happened and the ATF made taking guns a national obsession with those people.
AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 340d
And immediately after Ruby Ridge, Waco happened. Trigger happy feds need prison. Lying cops need lead to the head.
Guidy@lemmy.world · -13 pts · 340d
Motherfucker the second amendment doesnât only apply to âaficionadosâ, but all citizens. Where were you when they banned the most effective guns with which to resist tyranny?
So that means youâre stepping up too, right? You didnât just ask me to go die alone for you because you couldnât be bothered and maybe donât like guns to begin with, right? You realize that thereâs a difference between one guy with a gun and forty guys with guns, RIGHT?
Google Cliven Bundy or MFAC for admittedly unfavorable but effective examples of this, and then feel free to fuck off after that.
Or were you talking to the more numerous MAGA gun nuts who canât wait to goose step over and kiss some boots and who obviously wonât be lifting a finger to stop any of this?
I hate your shitty, smug, and typical response because this shit is serious and youâre a fucking joke.

Bro chill. They were talking direct to all the people who scream that they need guns after the latest school shooting prompts people to talk about gun control. All the people who have guns âfor self defenseâ because they believe that stealing a TV deserves the death penalty. All the people who claim that guns are important to stand up to tyranny while they vote for conservatives time after time.
Youâre taking this to such a personal level and weâre [probably] not even talking about you.

They've been trying to spin literally any protests or even just token resistance as criminal, and rural voters, by and large, absolutely believe that cities are hives of crime and iniquity.
AA5B@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 340d
Itâs not just that: I have a brother whoâs not even that conservative but seems to sincerely believe the Gaza protests on college campuses are terrorism and Trump is justified in cutting medical research associated with those colleges
CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 339d
I don't get how the medical research at a university (which benefits the country) should be tied to protesters anyway. Even if they were actually "terrorists".
It's so stupid I don't even have the words.
AA5B@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 339d
This hits me especially hard. My little one had a medical crisis as a baby: Harvard sponsored research over a couple decades turned his condition from 70% fatal to 90% survival. My baby is alive and going to college this year because of this research. How dare they play games with this?

Well... It's not the first time the National Guard gunned down protesters. No one was ever held responsible for Kent State murders, and Kent State was not the only college that saw National Guard violence. 60 years ago, and in that time, no laws were changed to prevent it from happening again.

The national guard of the 1600s was organized around fighting american indians to assist with the colonization of North America.
The modern national guard wasn't formed until the Dick Act of 1903, after which they were almost immediately used to suppress labor strikes. You can look into the Colorado Labor Wars or the Ludlow Massacre for some contemporary examples.
dandelion@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 10 pts · 340d

halcyoncmdr@lemmy.world · 26 pts · 340d
Congress gave ICE $75 billion over four years, approximately $18.7 billion each year because daddy Trump demanded it. Added to the $10 billion Congress already appropriated ICE for fiscal year 2025 in March, ICE now has $28.7 billion at its disposal this year. ICE alone now has more budgeted than the entire Department of Justice.

starryoccultist@lemmy.sdf.org · 14 pts · 340d
This whole thing isn't going to pass. Trump/Hegseth are only external expressions of the fundamental rot at the heart of America's social, political and economic systems. America is in terminal decline and putting guardrails around the presidency is too little, too late
Hadriscus@jlai.lu · 6 pts · 340d
Yes, when I said "has passed", I mean "when the people of the United States have vanquished this specific version of fascism". I wasn't suggesting that it was going to pass on its own.
laranis@lemmy.zip · 8 pts · 340d
We had a chance. Biden's administration should have been solely focused on preventing the return and acceleration of fascism. Instead, they cowed to their corporate masters and threw crumbs to the people.
As others have said, we've likely had our last free election as the United States of America. Whatever follows should absolutely have guardrails against this happening again.
queermunist@lemmy.ml · 5 pts · 340d
Do you think there's nothing else to be done simply because elections are over? That just means we need to do something else.

I don't have a say in what happens in the US, I am fighting locally on our own issues here in Mayotte. I wasn't trying to say fascism would "pass", that was a poor choice of words. Let's reword it to "when Trumpism is dead".

Trump, after signing the "restore the sanctity of christian marriage act", which bans any sexual acts outside of marriage and without the intent of reproduction, as well as all forms of pornography, will get caught raping young girls in the white house, then he will instead rub it into the faces of liberals (read: everyone left of Mussolini) that he and other people in the system can do whatever they want. Then a TV advertisement about serving president Trump will explicitly say that "if you are loyal enough, you can even rape children". Then Elon Musk begin tweeting about his new girlfriend, a very terrified looking 11 year old.
ArmchairAce1944@discuss.online · 4 pts · 339d

Gun grab? Really? I mean itâs about control for sure. But your first thought was gun grab? Itâs to create a dictatorship. The fascist fucks wonât stop on that but⊠gun grab is not how I would describe itâŠ
DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social · 24 pts · 340d
An inevitable goal in a dictatorship is disarming the opposition. The in-group can often keep their weapons to help oppress the outgroups.
This was also, as it happens, one of the real goals of the 2nd Amendment. Most of the founders weren't under any real belief that a militia based military was a viable treat to a regular army like the British model, they saw how poorly the militias fared in the Revolution.
The militia model that was the goal of the 2nd was about rapid reactionary forces for slave revolts and Indian exterminations.
Personally I think this is more about killing protestors but whatever they can do two things with one action
LadyMeow@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 1 pts · 340d
Yeah I mean youâre right, power and control, but the theyâre coming to take your guns is such a republican idk⊠dog whistle? Like why is that what youâre worried about when whatâs at stake is so huge. I mean unless youâre hoping for a civil war or something.
postmateDumbass@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 340d

Voting? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
al_Kaholic@lemmynsfw.com · 8 pts · 340d
Except less you forget it's always projection. Trump already signalled he would take the guns first then have the court figure it out. This did not cause a shitstorm with conservative 2a types. Why you ask? Same reason as they don't care about ice kidnapping and disappearing people. Harder to stop an illegal takeover if you are bringing rocks to a gunfight. He has promised those dogs the full boot, unlimited licking time and if they are lucky they can own a stitch in the leather.
