This must be some new dark pattern because my Meta VR headset, Twitter, and Instagram have all started giving me false notification badges recently. I’m just teaching myself to ignore the red badges because it’s not worth the annoyance.
LinkedIn is absolute garbage. It's Facebook for your work persona, which makes it worse than Facebook because nobody is willing to risk sounding unprofessional by calling things bullshit. It's all "The Emperor's New Clothes" and useless when looking for work.
Just thought I'd let you know that I'll let you know when I have an update...none right now, but I wanted to update you that you have no updates at this time
I mean would you rather not get an email and worry that they forgot or there was a glitch? This small update is just updating you that there’s no responses. I imagine they also spend a decent amount of resources when people call and they just tell you what would have been in this email.
Who the fuck calls LinkedIn to check on the status of a social media post?
Hey X company, your Y system isn’t working correctly, I didn’t get my Z.
Somethings not working, how would they know if you DON’T contact them….? It’s not just for the update, it’s also to inform them their systems are not working correctly lmfao.
Bold of you to assume they care, or you can actually contact them in a way they'd get something fixed. When I report spam/scam job postings, they just send a canned response saying the listings are "within guidelines".
I don’t assume anything, somethings not working it’s never going to get fixed unless you inform someone.
LinkedIn in cancer, but that doesn’t change due process lmfao. That’s why I changed it to generic boilerplate, but clearly that went right your head since you just want to complain about LinkedIn.
Yes, I would rather have no email if there is nothing to update. I mark every one of these style emails as spam because I deal enough with garbage mail, I don't need legitimate companies bolstering my inbox to get their name shown. Cause that's the real reason for that. It's meant as a reminder that the platform exists, to encourage you to go back onto it again.
I'm 47 and have never had a LinkedIn account. If I wind up job searching again at my age, I'll gladly take a job digging ditches before I create an account on that hive of scum and villainy.

Holy fuck that explains alot. I was wondering why the website was acting so clunky.

I only use the site when I'm looking for work so it's not surprising I didn't notice.

I want to delete my account and everytime I fear, what if I mess up my career and won't end up getting a new job if they can't verify my profile.
Pika@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 356d
Can't you disable your account without deleting? info would still be out there but, nobody would be able to see it again till you made it live

Yes.
Who the fuck calls LinkedIn to check on the status of a social media post?
This is just a way to get more page hits to inflate their "daily/weekly/monthly participation" numbers.

That reminds me I should delete my LinkedIn , especially annoyed at Microsoft nagging on my work ( teams etc ) me to confirm my linked in account.

As a serious question: would you rather no email when no updates or an email saying no updates?
I guess I'd rather the email to not wonder if something got lost or some other issue.
Now the multiple in one day: I can't really defend. That seems nutty. Maybe they should let you choose how often to get the given update.
gilgameth@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 355d
I can't believe I'm answering this, but, I obviously expect the "update email" to arrive when there's an update. No emails = no updates
PumaStoleMyBluff@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 355d
The least they could do is change the subject line when there are none.
gilgameth@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 355d
I'll allow it

In a similar vein if you apply to a job, do you prefer being ghosted or a rejection email?
gilgameth@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 355d
My CV being rejected is an update. So email.
