My gen x ass was coming to post this exact thing. Well done.

Me: I wanna jump off a bridge

My biological mother: Want me to drive you there?

Where's Gen X?

Oh right. Forgotten.

PugJesus@piefed.social · 29 pts · 321d

As my mother would say, "Whatever."

TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world · 17 pts · 321d (12 replies)

The true forgotten generation. But Gen X are eating popcorn while the rest are having generation war.

Edit: lol at people who are downvoting and taking my comment seriously. It's a jab at Gen X not being mentioned at all in mainstream discourse of generation fight amongst boomers, millenials and zoomers. I don't know what nerves I have hit but I am owning it.

While I agree that it is a distraction from the real war at large, the class war, I do want to point out that it very much is real, as you have actual people out there who argue about stupid shit like this. Sad, but that's humans for ya.

TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 321d (5 replies)

I used to think generational fighting is stupid, but the stats are undeniable, boomers own much of the wealth. Boomers are least likely to vote far right, but they are more likely to vote down affordable housing because they don't want their property value to drop. That is an indirect support for the far right, because it leads to younger people being resentful and voting for populist far right who promise them the stars and blame the wrong types of people. This is a trend across the world. Generational and class conflict are one and the same in this case. Sorry to older folks of Lemmy, but older generations have become greedy.

When you don't have a savings or a house, it feels kinda rich.

False.

I am eating peanut butter pretzels.

Ohmmy@lemmy.dbzer0.com · -13 pts · 321d (2 replies)

I wish Gen X would shut the fuck up like you say they do. Reeks of desperate middle child every time.

sauerkrautsaul@lemmus.org · 8 pts · 321d

Hey!!! We're important! We were Pepsi: Generation Next and we saw Jurrassic Park in our teens, shit like that

Giga-cringe if the people upvoting me are the same ones that downvoted you

stupidcasey@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 321d

X marks the spot, still looking though.

balance8873@lemmy.myserv.one · -3 pts · 321d

Not forgotten, just not relevant

Duamerthrax@lemmy.world · -13 pts · 321d (3 replies)

Traitors. They joined with the Boomers once they all turned 30.

WorldsDumbestMan@lemmy.today · 10 pts · 321d (1 reply)

W-what? Cmon, I'm slave labor here. I have no agency whatsoever.

Duamerthrax@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 321d

So are my Gen x friends, but they all shut me down if I say anything that implies that Democrats are nothing more then the lesser evil. I ended up leaving a discord server I made because they were arguing with me if I posted anything critical of Biden and look at me like I have two heads when I say that climate change action should take priority over the economy. Most of them believe that recycling plastic works. They've completely bought into the narrative that keeps them enriching the powerful.

samus12345@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 321d

Seems like it was kinda 50-50.

Beebabe@lemmy.world · 56 pts · 321d (5 replies)

I made a millennial joke in front of my coworkers after a two month break. (They have said waaaay worse). Anyway they HR’d me and I almost got a free vacation to the grippy sock hotel. Now I keep my mouth shut. They’ll never see it coming! Assholes.

turdcollector69@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 321d (1 reply)

What was the joke and what are they not going to see coming?

Beebabe@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 320d

“Probably better to die than pretend like I can afford a house before I’m 90” or something. Not those exact words.

MrScottyTay@sh.itjust.works · 6 pts · 321d (1 reply)

That end is a bit ominous, you alright?

Beebabe@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 320d

I have a reason I have to get up. I joked about being able to buy a house before I died. Not that I want to get up. But I’m obligated.

Generation self defined by apathy and nihilism gets overlooked?

yakko@feddit.uk · 41 pts · 321d (3 replies)

Generation "Mentions not getting mentioned any time people talk about generations"

DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social · 16 pts · 321d (2 replies)

Generation bitches and whines about being ignored while being the largest voting bloc behind the return of fascism

yakko@feddit.uk · 15 pts · 321d (1 reply)

I just wish most gen x were actually disaffected and alienated and not just constantly demanding relevance. You were a latchkey kid and you have better references than us, get over it.

TheFinn@discuss.tchncs.de · 1 pts · 321d (1 reply)

More like replaying history but yeah

MehBlah@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 321d

It always is and and always will be. It was meant as a comment on how every generation when its young looks around and thinks that its time to change things and 'this' generation is going to do something. Every generation throws a hero up the pop charts.

Preventer79@sh.itjust.works · 32 pts · 321d (6 replies)

Every generation thinks they invented dark and surreal humor and without fail people who should know better act likes its some new and unique thing... it's more of an anomaly IMHO if a generation doesn't do this.

MummysLittleBloodSlut@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 22 pts · 321d (4 replies)

Yeah but instead of joking about suicide like a normal person, boomers write confusingly veiled songs about it and pretend they're family friendly.

Looking at you, David Bowie! Space Oddity isn't for children!

AnarchistArtificer@slrpnk.net · 8 pts · 321d (2 replies)

I feel like Boomers' jokes about hating their spouse is thinly veiled suicidality jokes. Like, they're giving big "I did everything I was meant to and I hate my life" energy

MummysLittleBloodSlut@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 3 pts · 321d (1 reply)

I guess so, but blaming your sadness on someone you promised to love is a dick move if they never did anything wrong, and most wives never did anything wrong

AnarchistArtificer@slrpnk.net · 2 pts · 318d

I agree wholeheartedly

RedSnt@feddit.dk · 2 pts · 321d

You know the sayings: "We're standing on the shoulders of giants" and "he walked so we could run" etc.

PugJesus@piefed.social · 12 pts · 321d

Dark humor comes and goes in cultural waves, it seems.

Gen X: "First time?" meme.

MehBlah@lemmy.world · 20 pts · 321d (4 replies)

Its not like most of us care we are not mentioned in the same place these losers are.

SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca · 16 pts · 321d (2 replies)

Exactly the point of GenX, please keep ignoring us. It's why we dress in black.

snooggums@piefed.world · 4 pts · 321d (1 reply)

Is that the reason? I just prefer not to wear light colors that get visibly dirty so easily.

SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca · 6 pts · 321d

We have talked too long. Back to the batcave.

That makes you a millennial right? This is the hipster vibe you're going for?

PugJesus@piefed.social · 15 pts · 321d (1 reply)

Joking?

Korhaka@sopuli.xyz · 13 pts · 321d

Pretty sure their leading cause of death is suicide, just like the millennials. Although millennials are going to be getting old enough soon that heart problems will probably take over at some point.

Fleur_@aussie.zone · 8 pts · 320d

Joking?

GreenShimada@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 321d (3 replies)

Hey, blame Kurt Cobain about why Gen X takes it too seriously. You also can't joke with them about using too much heroin without a diatribe about Kate Moss and Anthony Kiedis

Gen X, the least worst generation

Bleys@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 321d (2 replies)

You mean the statistically most pro-Trump generation, more so than even boomers?

DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social · 5 pts · 321d (1 reply)

And the one that bitches and whines when everything isn't about them?

Pay no attention to that behavioral correlation.

Bleys@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 321d

The top level comment made a claim that Gen X is de facto the best. I just pointed out an observable fact that suggests otherwise. And then apparently my comment that Gen X is perhaps not actually better than every other generation then triggered you so hard that you had to comment calling it “bitching and whining because everything isn’t about [my unknown generation]”. Lol.

RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 321d

Oh IDK…makes us seem inconsequential. For some awful reason my gen were the top trump voters. Somehow that slid under the radar.

Gen X managed to blame everything they did on the boomers

OctopusNemeses@lemmy.world · 15 pts · 321d (4 replies)

More like the kids can't tell old people apart. They've been binning Gen-X into the Boomer category. Old is Boomer to them.

I'm sure they would label some older Millennials as Boomers too. Especially since social media has distorted everyone's perception of physical appearance. Even millennials are struggling with coming to grips with aging. Sorry guys but you are old.

Gen-X wasn't forgotten. There's the technical definition of generations. Then there's the pop culture / meme definition of generations. In pop culture. Especially zoomer pop culture. There's only Boomer, Millennial, and Zoomer. Which vaguely goes as old, 20-30 something, and teenager. Gen-X was "forgotten" into the Boomer category.

MyDarkestTimeline01@ani.social · 8 pts · 321d (3 replies)

I'm 39, and Lemmy has informed me that I'm a "boomer". Apparently "it's a mindset!" or something.

Alcoholicorn@mander.xyz · 4 pts · 321d (1 reply)

Correct. Also the most boomer way you could have said it without somehow implying that you hate your wife.

MyDarkestTimeline01@ani.social · 1 pts · 321d

But I love my wife. I wouldn't have married her if I didn't.

possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 321d

Lemmy is full of boomers

I'll let myself out
