No plans filed for Trump’s new ballroom despite demolition being under way

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/oct/22/white-house-trump-new-ballroom-demolition

Amid backlash over partial demolition of East Wing, White House reportedly intends to send blueprints

The White House has not submitted plans for Donald Trump’s new ballroom to the federal agency that oversees construction of federal buildings, though demolition is already under way.

On Tuesday, the White House told Reuters it intended to send plans to the National Capital Planning Commission, an agency that typically approves and monitors construction on federal buildings. Demolition began earlier this week, with reporters taking video of a backhoe ripping out chunks of the White House’s exterior.

The New York Times reported Wednesday, citing a senior administration official, that the ballroom plans will mean the demolition of the entire East Wing.

Took me easy too long to realise that wasn't an actual photo of the current state of the white house...

From Zombieland/2?

Idiocracy.

CheeseNoodle@lemmy.world · 16 pts · 302d (1 reply)

I won't hear a word against president camacho, guy was completely uneducated but actually pretty intelligent all things considered. Aknoweldged things were fucked but that he couldn't fix them, created a national program to find someone who could and upon finding that person immediately put them in charge. Better leader than most in the western world right now.

Bahnd@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 302d

The most unbelievable part of that entire film is that President Dwayne Elizondo Mountian Dew Herbert Camacho didnt take credit for solving the crisis at the end of the movie.

mcv@lemmy.zip · 15 pts · 302d

That increasingly sounds like it is the current state of the White House.

FartsWithAnAccent@fedia.io · 10 pts · 302d

The above ground pool tipped it off for me.

Idiocracy

Filing plans would signal that the administration was somehow beholden to something or someone.

TheMadCodger@piefed.social · 20 pts · 302d

Or they thought this through, beyond I'm gonna build a ballroom, start the backhoes!

NaibofTabr@infosec.pub · 3 pts · 302d

or that they actually had some kind of plan...

AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 302d

FSB and Mossad haven't signed off on the plans yet.

It's National. That's a fantastic word for "I haven't the faintest idea from what rabbit asshole I will be pulling a full rolled up plan from, but believe me, I will."

I use it at work all the time. It only works when the thing you're doing hasn't ever been done before.

Sunflier@lemmy.world · 31 pts · 302d (1 reply)

Oh! I get it. He's destroying the white house as a symbolic metaphor for him destroying America.

Knock_Knock_Lemmy_In@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 302d

No. He's building himself a better bunker.

Rentlar@lemmy.ca · 24 pts · 302d (7 replies)

This is actually surprising that this government building is just being torn down without any public information filings saying how much is being torn down...

Is this just shoddy incompetent engineering that is standard fare for anyone working for this administration, or is there something being hidden from us?

ChonkyOwlbear@lemmy.world · 14 pts · 302d (4 replies)

It's the "don't ask for permission, ask for forgiveness" policy.

Makeitstop@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 302d (3 replies)

When do they start asking for forgiveness?

ChonkyOwlbear@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 302d

Oh the Supreme Court has forgiven everything he has done so far.

DarkCloud@lemmy.world · 17 pts · 302d (1 reply)

Well, the exits and command controls wouldn't be very secret if they filed them:

The East Wing was built on top of the Presidential Emergency Operations Center, a secure emergency underground shelter for the president.

dhork@lemmy.world · 20 pts · 302d

Now that's interesting. (More info here.)

I wonder what fun listening devices and other random spy shit are being planted there. A future President should probably not use that bunker until the "ballroom" above it is replaced with a structure that wasnt built by someone so obviously under foreign influence.

sik0fewl@lemmy.ca · 16 pts · 302d (5 replies)

FSB, MSS, Mossad and other foreign spy agencies must love this.

I wonder how good the security is.

mic_check_one_two@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 12 pts · 302d (3 replies)

Yeah, I can guarantee that at least one bug gets planted in a wall, floor, or ceiling somewhere important. Hell, with Trump acting like a Russian agent, that may actually have been coordinated right from the start.

D_C@sh.itjust.works · 7 pts · 302d (2 replies)

He isn't acting anything. He is a Russian asset.

mic_check_one_two@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 5 pts · 302d

Ultimately, it’s irrelevant whether he is or isn’t. All that matters is that he’s doing everything a Russian asset would do.

Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 302d

He is a Russian asset, but OP said he was acting like a Russian agent

AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 302d

FSB and Mossad have to sign off on the plans before he can submit them

RattlerSix@lemmy.world · 14 pts · 302d (4 replies)

I just want to know how the hell it's supposed to cost $250 million. I searched for $250 million buildings and found a 25 storey tower, a SpaceX launch facility and the hangar that holds the entire fleet of Air Force One jets. A stupid ballroom should cost a few million tops.

Wilco@lemmy.zip · 17 pts · 302d

Its supposed to cost $250 million because of corruption and fraud. Its just another grift.

lectricleopard@lemmy.world · 12 pts · 302d (4 replies)

I had a girlfriend from New Jersey tell me the best way to use your turn signal on the highway is to turn it on after you already started merging. That way the person you're cutting off can't speed up to block you, and the cops won't pull you over for not signaling.

We were dating at age 19 maybe? She had already been in 2 car accidents.

slaneesh_is_right@lemmy.org · 3 pts · 302d

I do know people like that and it's blowing my mind every single time. They don't use turn signals if possible, if they do in roundabouts for example, they don't do it to keep traffic going, they use it on the way out to not get a ticket. Somehow these people never get pulled over or get a fine. I got pulled over randomly and had to take drug tests and whatever. When i asked them why they pulled me over, they just shrugged. My girlfriend who was not a terrible driver, but far from a good one, was once followed by the police for a few kilometres, with the lights on and "pull over" sign and whatever. She just didn't know, because she hardly ever uses her mirrors, no over the shoulder look etc. when they did finally overtook her and pulled her over, they all just had a good laugh about how bad she was at keeping an eye at her surroundings. I swear if that was me, i would be in jail.

ToastedRavioli@midwest.social · 2 pts · 302d

The logic also falls through not only on safety grounds, but on the fact that legally in most places you technically have to signal for three full seconds before changing lanes, and maintain signaling until you have been in the lane for a couple seconds. So in total you have to be signaling for like 6 seconds minimum, otherwise you could still be ticketed for it.

Although realistically the only time you would see a ticket is if you caused an accident by not doing it

At my house, I got very little ball room. But I just scratch them if I'm not comfortable.

Anyway, I just sanded my whole car down with 80 grit sand paper. The house also looked like it needed it, so I sanded the garage. I'm going to go ask the dog what the plan is. My wife said the car could use a wash.

This is the most egregious neighborhood building code violation ever.

Busybody neighbors see obvious construction: "DO YOU HAVE A PERMIT FOR THAT??"

Trump: Mind yer own business.

Busybody neighbors: report it to municipal building code authorities

Trump: I suddenly need the govt to pay me $230 million settlement for the litigious mud they've dragged me through over the years, and that $230 million will come from taxpayers.

Methinks he owes the white house demolition crew $230 million, and you know how wealthy people refuse to ever pay for anything out of their own pocket.

Update: Trump stated that he's paying for the ballroom out of his own pocket $300 million and it's not coming from taxpayers. 🤷🏼‍♀️

While insisting the govt pay him $230 million from taxpayer dollars that he says he would donate to charity. Fuck you Trump. You're nothing but selfishness, greed, nonsense, while USA citizens are suffering because you've raised prices so high on everything we can no longer afford to live, while you decorate your oval office with gold trinkets. You cut Medicare & snap for your citizens who have no medical care or food, you waged war on Portland based on some fictional ai video you thought was real. I hope all those big macs you've been deep throating all your life wreak their ultimate havoc on your arteries ASAP.
